Paratici was forced to resign as managing director in early 2023, after he was slapped with a 30-month worldwide ban from FIFA. The 52-year-old was found guilty of false accounting during his time at Juve, with Paratici unable to work in any official footballing capacity since then.

That isn’t to say he hasn’t been of use to Spurs since then, though, as it is known that Paratici has been advising the club on an unofficial consultancy basis.

However, with his ban due to end on June 30th, reports from Italy are adamant that an official Tottenham return for Paratici could be nearing (Corriere della Sera).

The official held extensive talks with AC Milan over becoming their new sporting director, but those negotiations broke down, which has freed up a move to N17 as a result.

Daniel Levy has publicly praised Paratici’s work ethic and “tough” negotiating style in the past, and it is believed by some that the Lilywhites chairman has been working hard to tempt him with a return to the club.

Levy held private talks with Paratici over re-joining Spurs as far back as late March, and there has been no sign of this potential appointment slowing down since then.

The Italy international’s debut season in England hasn’t exactly been a dream for him, and Arne Slot’s side could choose to part ways with Chiesa for as little as £13 million.

Tottenham are emerging as potential contenders for Chiesa, and Paratici’s excellent relationship with his agent, Fali Ramadani, has been described as a “crucial” factor which could give them an edge in the race for his signature.

CaughtOffside also back up previous reports that Paratici is expected to come back, and he could now mount an assault for Liverpool’s attacker after he returns.

Despite Chiesa’s lack of luck at Anfield, the ex-Juve star has shone on the biggest occasions in past seasons, including Euro 2020, and he’s still just 27-years-old. For just £13m, Chiesa would be an arguable snip, with the only real sticking point financially being his salary.

Chiesa has also been called a “top-level” talent since making the move to Merseyside last summer, having impressed on the odd occasion for Liverpool, and perhaps he’d have more luck earning game time down south.

It’s hardly a surprise that she is a force of nature.Baig is named after royalty (the princess, y’know?) and she has defied both conservative culture and absent facilities to move mountains. She is a double-international, capped in both cricket and football for Pakistan, has a degree in health and physical education, eyes a long-term future in coaching, and has immediate goals to take Pakistan further than they have ever gone at a women’s cricket World Cup. And she’s doing it all because she was inspired by a story in a magazine more than a decade ago.”In 2010, I was looking at a magazine and saw that the Pakistan team had won the Asian Games – a women’s team. There were pictures of the team in the magazine, and when I saw that, I got very inspired,” Baig says from New Zealand, where she has completed her quarantine ahead of the World Cup.Related

At the time, the sports-obsessed Baig was throwing javelin and shot-put for her region but not so much into cricket.”Where I come from is a beautiful place, but there are a lot of conservative people there. They don’t support sports,” she said. “As a child, you are not allowed to play outside your home on the road. If you are a girl, you should play inside your home, and even if you are playing inside, they will ask: ‘Why are you playing?'”When I was a child, I didn’t have a role model and I never thought about playing international cricket. I watched men’s cricket at that time. My family loved cricket and we all loved to watch cricket. Once, I saw a Pakistan-India women’s match on TV. In my mind, I started imagining that someday I will play. I was just imagining, but I didn’t have hope.”The idea that she could become a cricketer took shape when her athletics coach turned her towards the game.”My coach told me there was a team going to play cricket and he asked, since I throw shot put, do I know how to bowl. He asked me to try and I did. After a while, he told me I was doing great and I went to Islamabad with the team. We played against Islamabad and I got selected for the Islamabad region.”I played my first national championships [in 2009-10, at the age of 14] and saw the women I had seen in the magazine – Javeria Khan and Sana Mir and Nida Dar. It was a dream come true.”

What Baig didn’t know then was that the Asian Games win had prompted the Pakistan Cricket Board to professionalise the women’s game. It eventually paved the way for her to make a career in cricket, but via football.”In 2014 there was a team going to Lahore for the [football] national championships and there was a shortage of players. They asked me to play. I went to Lahore to join the team. I played my first national championships in football there.”After that, I got selected for a national football camp. There were about 50 girls in the two-month camp. Eighteen of us were selected and I was a defender. I played some international tours, but in 2015, the Pakistan Football Federation [PFF] was banned, so I stopped playing.”She didn’t stop watching, though, and continues to support any team Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi play for, but often has to cheer alone. European football is not well followed in her home town and the local scene has died down as the PFF has fallen in and out of FIFA’s favour. At the time of writing, it remains banned over government interference and there are fears of development stalling and players being lost to the sport. In Baig’s case, football’s loss was cricket’s gain as she turned her full attention to bowling after the 2015 football sanctions.With nowhere to practise in Gilgit, which has “no ground and not a single net”, Baig moved to Lahore, where she could study and train at elite facilities. “I went to Lahore in 2016 and I started my studies at Lahore College for Women University. I selected that university for cricket. They have their own cricket ground and nets.Baig on the Pakistan team: “We are quite religious. We also really enjoy each other’s company. We respect each other and know each other’s moods. It’s fun together”•Ryan Pierse/Getty Images”We studied in the morning and after that we’d go for practice. I managed to get regular practice, which I didn’t have before. Then I played at the 2017 World Cup and it changed my whole life and career. I became a permanent part of the team after that.”Before that World Cup, Baig had played two ODIs and a T20I for Pakistan in two years. In the World Cup, she played five matches and took wickets in all of them but was benched for the final two games. She was their joint second-highest wicket-taker despite playing fewer matches than anyone else in the front-line attack, showed an ability to swing the ball both ways, and established herself as an energetic fielder and charismatic cricketer who could nail down her place in the team.Baig has played in 28 of Pakistan’s 34 ODIs since and was their joint-highest wicket-taker at the 2020 T20 World Cup.”I just try to bowl consistently in one area but I am working on my variations too. Sometimes I don’t execute them very well, so I try to do a lot of repetitions to get them right.” She sees her ability to bowl variations as crucial to her role as one of Pakistan’s emerging core of senior players.

“In our team, we have people of the same age group. We have some seniors, but we don’t have that much experience, and I feel like I need to take responsibility. I will try in every game to do my job well and help the team to win, especially because at the last World Cup, we didn’t win a single match.”This time, we are here for something. We will not repeat that [result] again. This is not the same Pakistan team from four or five years back. We are here to prove that we are a different team now and we will fight in all our matches.”Baig’s goal is to make it to the semi-finals and she thinks it’s realistic, given how the squad has grown into a group of players who know each other well and like being together, on and off the field.”The one thing about our team environment is that we are quite religious,” she said. “In our team, the priority is namaz. Everybody, when going for practice, will be sure we’ve done our namaz first and then we start. And when we come back, we do namaz as well. We also really enjoy each other’s company. We respect each other and know each other’s moods. It’s fun together.”A quick glance at the PCB’s YouTube channel confirms the women’s team is having a good time and that Baig is the life of the party. She interviews her team-mates, leads the volleyball warm-ups, and provides diary-style snippets of what the team is up to. She even had a bowl-out challenge with fellow fast bowler Fatima Sana, the ICC’s Emerging Women’s Player of the Year.

If you think that means Baig is gearing up for a post-playing career in broadcasting, think again.”I have a degree and I will study more because my future plans are to go into coaching,” she says. “I would love to coach women. And I would also like to build facilities in my area, in Gilgit. There are a lot of things that need to be fixed. You need a proper plan for that area.”That plan may even include education about women’s empowerment, which Baig identifies as crucial to the people in the Gilgit-Baltistan region.”In the area I come from, you need support, and if your parents are not supportive, you can’t do anything. You can’t even study if they are not supportive.”My parents are – alhumdulilah – very supportive. Whenever I think about my journey, I always think about my father, how he encouraged me. He was always excited for my success and wanted me to push hard always.”It was Baig’s father who gave her the name Diana, an uncommon name for a Muslim girl in Pakistan. “I was born in 1995. At that time Lady Diana [Spencer, Princess of Wales] was very popular. My father liked the name, so that’s the name he gave me.”It’s just one of the things that make her stand out in Pakistan. “I also have a different haircut, so a lot of people recognise me,” she says, patting her shoulder-length locks, shorter than most of her team-mates wear their hair. “People do know who we are, because people care about cricket.”Luckily, she doesn’t get recognised on the streets to the point where it has become stifling. She still gets to go out and do the things she loves, like hitting Joyland, an amusement park in Lahore, to “ride the same rides again and again”, or going home, to remind herself of where she’s from and how far she has come.”I go for trips and to get a break when I can. I just love the mountains. It’s my home. And still, I am the only international cricketer to come from that area – man or woman – and I am proud of that.”

Two-time All-Star Shane Bieber is set to return to the mound this week.

Bieber, who has not played in over a year since undergoing Tommy John surgery for a torn UCL last April, will make his Blue Jays debut on Friday at Miami, manager John Schneider told reporters. Bieber has recently completed seven starts as part of his rehab assignment, posting a 1.89 ERA and 37 strikeouts across 29 innings.

Bieber was traded to Toronto in July at the deadline after previously spending his entire career with Cleveland, and will begin pitching for a Blue Jays' team that is second in wins and fourth in strikeouts, but just 23rd in ERA. He joins the rotation a little over a month before the end of the regular season, as the Blue Jays lead the American League East with a 73-52 record.

The 30-year-old pitcher has been one of the best starters in the league when healthy. In the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season, his best campaign, Bieber went 8-1 with a league-leading 1.63 ERA and 122 strikeouts and won the triple crown and Cy Young award. When he last saw significant playing time in 2023, he went 6-6 with a 3.80 ERA.

Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal continued his strong campaign to win the Cy Young award for a second straight year on Sunday evening against the Minnesota Twins.

Skubal pitched seven shutout innings at home, totaling a career-high 13 strikeouts. He also became the first Tigers pitcher in history to record at least 13 strikeouts in a game, and allow no more than one hit. This was the third time Skubal's thrown 13 strikeouts in a single game, via Sarah Langs.

Out of his 93 pitches, 67 of them were strikes. He walked one batter and only gave up one hit. His final strike thrown in Sunday's game was a 100-mph fastball—pretty incredible. By the end of his night, Skubal had gotten his season ERA down all the way to 2.15.

Skubal is leading MLB with 138 strikeouts over 109 innings pitched. He is the favorite to win the AL Cy Young award with -260 odds, via ESPN. If he continues on how he's performing now, he'll be able to lock up the award for a second consecutive year.

Shafali was her usual confident self and said that playing a semi-final “was not new to her” and that she feels “super ready” to play in any position India wants her to.”I was playing domestic cricket and was in good touch,” Shafali said. “Talking about the semi-finals, it’s not something new for me because I’ve played many semi-finals before. It’s just a matter of keeping my mind clear and giving myself confidence. I’ve been in such situations earlier, so it’s nothing new. I’ll keep telling myself to stay calm and believe in myself. So absolutely, I’ll do well, 200%.”Of course, what happened with Pratika – as a sportsperson, seeing that doesn’t feel good. No one wants any player to go through such an injury. Having just played the T20s in Surat, Shafali admitted adjusting to the 50-over format would need some work. She has had two training sessions with the squad since joining, focusing on both her defensive game and her trademark big hits.”Absolutely, I was playing T20s, and as a batter, it’s not easy to switch formats so quickly,” Shafali said. “But we had good practice sessions yesterday and today. I stayed calm and batted well. I tried to attack the bowlers who were in my range. I’ve had long batting sessions over the last two days, and I’m feeling really good because whatever I’m trying is working out. So yes, I’m happy with my touch. It’s looking very good for me.”While she has built her reputation as a power-hitting opener, Shafali said that she’s ready to adapt to any role the team requires.”That’s a management call [if they want to play me tomorrow]. But if you ask me, I’m flexible,” she said. “I can play anywhere, not just as an opener or in the middle order. The confidence I have in myself is very important as a sportsperson. Ruben Amorim was a man under pressure a couple of months ago, especially after the Red Devils endured yet another dismal start to a Premier League campaign.

The 40-year-old has since led the first-team squad to five games unbeaten in England’s top-flight – a run which is undoubtedly the best during his 12-month spell at Old Trafford.

Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur showcased their ability to bounce back from losing positions – something which may have been difficult in 2024/25.

There’s little disputing that the club are certainly on the up under Amorim’s guidance, but his side could be further improved during the upcoming January transfer window.

Man Utd’s hunt for new additions in January

Over the last couple of weeks, United have been one of the sides touted with a move to land Palmeiras centre forward Vitor Roque after his impressive form in 2025.

The Brazilian youngster has scored 16 times in his 30 league appearances this calendar year, currently sitting as the division’s second top scorer at present.

His form has led to links to the Red Devils, but it would be yet another expensive addition, with the Serie A outfit currently demanding a fee in the region of £42m for his signature.

In terms of big-money additions, the Red Devils have also been touted with another move for Elliot Anderson after his incredible rise at Nottingham Forest this campaign.

According to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg, United have already made contact with the Reds over a deal for the central midfielder, who’s also become an England international regular in recent months.

However, the journalist has also confirmed that any deal would set the hierarchy back upwards of £100m-£120m this January – a deal that would break the club record fee paid for Paul Pogba back in 2016.

Why Anderson would finally get Sesko firing

During their £200m spending spree in the summer, the United hierarchy forked out a fee in the region of £74m for the signature of Benjamin Sesko from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

Given the magnitude of such a fee, real expectations were placed on the Slovenian to provide the goods and lead the line for Amorim’s men in 2025/26.

However, his time at Old Trafford to date has been a huge disappointment, with the 22-year-old only finding the net twice in his first 11 Premier League outings for the Red Devils.

Sesko is currently four games without a goal in England’s top-flight, even being dropped to the substitutes bench and limited to just half an hour in the draw against Spurs.

He will no doubt need time to settle into life in England’s top-flight, but he could be aided in his attempts for success at Old Trafford should the board secure the services of Anderson this winter.

It would no doubt be a mammoth investment if they were to land the 23-year-old, but such a move would provide Sesko with the ammunition he needs to thrive in front of goal.

Anderson, who’s been dubbed “sensational” by Matt Forde, has completed 1.3 take-ons per 90 – ranking him in the top 3% of all midfielders in the division at present.

The aforementioned tally showcases his ability to get the ball into attacking areas, which could provide the forwards ahead of him with the chances they need to impress.

He’s also 8.6 passes into the final third per 90 – with such a tally the highest of any player in the Premier League this season, highlighting his talents with the ball at his feet.

Other figures, such as 8.8 progressive passes and 1.4 key passes per 90, further demonstrate his talents at finding a teammate – with such numbers perfectly falling into the hands of Sesko.

The prospect of Anderson linking up with Bruno Fernandes is truly an exciting one, with the United fans potentially blessed with one of the best duos in the league.

If the youngster can replicate such numbers, there’s no reason why he can’t help Sesko finally kickstart his career in England – even if a deal would cost the hierarchy a club-record fee.

Rajasthan Royals set to trade Samson to CSK for Jadeja and Curran

Jadeja was retained by CSK ahead of the 2025 mega auction for INR 18 crore as the second player after captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Along with MS Dhoni, Jadeja has been a constant part of their core. Glasgow Rangers sporting director Kevin Thelwell was provided the funds to splash on a host of new signings for Russell Martin during the summer transfer window.

The former Everton surpremo was shaping the squad for the first time since his move to Ibrox in April, and there was plenty of movement in and out of the club.

As you can see in the graphic above, Thelwell was backed by the board when it came to incoming signings, as he splashed the cash on several significant additions.

The most expensive signing of the summer window was centre-forward Youssef Chermiti, who arrived from Everton in an £8m deal. So far, the Portugal U21 international has scored one goal for Rangers.

Bojan Miovski was also brought in for a reported fee of up to £4.2m to bolster the club’s attack. The former Aberdeen man has only scored two goals in all competitions, per Sofascore.

Another Thelwell signing who has been underwhelming since his move to Ibrox in a £3.5m deal from Luton Town has been attacking midfielder Thelo Aasgaard.

Thelwell signed eight players on permanent deals in the summer, on top of the Oscar Cortes and Lyall Cameron deals that were agreed before his tenure, and the bulk of them failed to make much of an impact.

Djeidi Gassama has been the best addition to the squad out of those eight players. The French winger has scored six goals and provided two assists in all competitions, per Transfermarkt, which is more than any other summer signing has managed.

Oliver Antman, who joined from Go Ahead Eagles for £3m, has the most assists in the squad of any summer signing, with three, per Transfermarkt, and still has plenty of time left to improve at the age of 24.

Chermiti ranks just above Miovski, despite the fee, because he is five years younger than the Macedonia international and has more time ahead to develop and reach his potential at Ibrox.

That is also why Emmanuel Fernandez, who has started two games, ranks above Joe Rothwell, who is 30 and did not even make the bench for the 3-0 win over Dundee at Dens Park.

That leaves Thelo Aasgaard in third place. That may sound like praise at face value, but it really paints a picture of how underwhelming Thelwell’s signings have been.

The Norway international has produced one goal and one assist in 16 appearances in all competitions, per Transfermarkt, and the assist was a short pass to Gassama before his wonder goal in the earlier clip.

Aasgaard was also sent off against Celtic in the semi-final of the League Cup at Hampden Park for Danny Rohl’s side, which means that he has as many red cards as goals for the club so far.

At the age of 23, the former Luton star has time ahead of him and may develop into a future star for the Gers, but his current performance level has been underwhelming, at best.

Hagi currently plays for Analyaspor in Turkey after moving on from Ibrox as a free agent in the summer, despite showing some impressive displays in the Scottish Premiership last term.

After working his way back into the squad under Philippe Clement after a contract issue, the 27-year-old attacking midfielder scored four goals, created six ‘big chances’, and registered five assists in 16 league starts for the Light Blues, per Sofascore.

These statistics show that the playmaker, who former Romanian international Ilie Dumitrescu dubbed “sensational” last term,provided a regular threat as both a scorer and a creator of goals for the Scottish giants, whilst being utilised as a number ten or as a winger.

As aforementioned, Aasgaard has not shown consistency as either a scorer or as a creator since his £3.5m move from Luton, which is why the decision to release Hagi in the summer looks like a misjudged one.

As you can see in the table above, Hagi’s form in the Turkish top-flight is also vastly superior to the Norwegian midfielder’s for Rangers, as he has scored ten more chances and scored twice as many goals in fewer appearances.

These statistics show that the Romania international has taken the threat that he provided on the pitch for Rangers last season and carried it into his form in Turkey for his new club.

Hagi only turned 27 in October and is not a player who is heading into the final years of his career or is regressing as a player, as evidenced by his form this season, which makes it all the more surprising that the Gers allowed him to leave for nothing.
