Everton keen to sign Conor Gallagher

Everton have been heavily linked with a move for Conor Gallagher this summer, and now a new promising update has emerged on the potential transfer.

What’s the latest?

According to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, Frank Lampard is “keen” on making a move for Chelsea midfielder Gallagher this summer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Crook claimed:

“I think Frank Lampard is looking for Premier League experience. He definitely wants a midfielder in. I think he’s keen on Conor Gallagher if Chelsea are willing to send him out on loan again.”

Lampard must secure a deal

If the Toffees boss can secure a loan deal for Gallagher it would be a major coup for Everton who are reportedly looking to tighten their spending whilst recruiting for their team this summer, and securing a season-long loan deal would be a great piece of business.

Lampard is no stranger to the former Crystal Palace loanee as he worked with him at Chelsea when he was the manager at Stamford Bridge and the youngster has been compared to the Chelsea legend on numerous occasions.

Patrick Vieira claimed: “I would say he has maybe the quality finishing of a Frank Lampard.”

The £50m machine who was dubbed as “Kante with goals” by Tony Cascarino has had an impressive season on loan at Selhurst Park, with SofaScore ranking him as the top-rated player in the Crystal Palace squad for his Premier League performances.

Gallagher scored eight goals, delivered three assists and created five big chances while making 1.1 key passes. From a defensive point of view, he made two tackles and won 5.9 duels on average per game, as well as successfully completing the majority of his dribbles over 34 league appearances in Vieira’s side.

Lampard’s experience and relationship with the 22-year-old will surely allow the manager to comfortably develop Gallagher further next season, something that Chelsea may view as a tempting reason to let him go back on loan again to gain further consistent game time and Premier League experience.

Ultimately, if Everton are given the opportunity to take Gallagher on loan this summer it is one they cannot afford to pass up, especially if he can emulate the instant impact he made at Crystal Palace, he could be highly valuable on Merseyside next season.

Liverpool agree deal for Calvin Ramsay

According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have now fully agreed the deal to sign Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay.

The Lowdown: Another one

After already securing the signings of Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez, new sporting guru Julian Ward is showing no signs of slowing down as he adds yet another fresh face to the squad at Kirkby.

Jurgen Klopp is to be gifted another exciting young player to his ranks for what will be his third summer swoop – the 18-year-old flying full-back has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks, despite his contract at the Pittodrie Stadium not being set to expire until 2024.

Following a fresh update, it appears as though the talented teen will soon be unveiled as a Premier League player after a huge development on Merseyside this week, with Ward wasting no time in racking up the business early on in his new role.

The Latest: Here we go

Taking to Twitter, Romano confirmed that the clubs have now ‘signed all paperworks’ and an imminent move to Merseyside is ‘ready’. He wrote:

“Liverpool and Aberdeen have signed all paperworks for Calvin Ramsay deal. Contract ready until June 2027 to be completed once medical is done.

“Final fee: £4m plus £2.5m add ons.”

The Verdict: Prospect for the future

Whilst Ramsay won’t necessarily be slotting straight into Klopp’s starting XI ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold, the youngster is a hugely exciting prospect and is a player who has the potential to go on and become the future of the Reds.

Last season, the defender made 33 appearances across all competitions for the Dons, registering nine assists and even getting himself on the scoresheet once as well, via Transfermarkt, showing his attacking qualities at wing-back, emulating that of Liverpool’s current number 66.

The £540k-rated ace will more than likely be given a chance to prove himself under the German throughout the club’s cup runs next term, but time is very much on his side when it comes to making progress, and there’s no doubt that he will eventually be able to step up to the level required and enjoy plenty of long-term success with the top-flight giants in years to come.

Tottenham: Gianluca Di Marzio drops Gabriel Jesus transfer claim

Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has provided an update on Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur’s battle to sign Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus.

The Lowdown: Jesus transfer rumours

According to Melissa Reddy of Sky Sports, the Gunners are ‘cautiously optimistic’ as they lead the race for the Brazil international’s signature, having put in nearly six months of work with Jesus’ representative Marcello Pettinati to ensure that they were in pole position to recruit him from the Premier League champions this summer.

The 25-year-old voiced his desire to join Arsenal at the start of June, following the arrivals of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund and Julian Alvarez from River Plate.

However, a number of other clubs have been linked with a move for the striker, with the Gunners’ north London rivals Tottenham also reportedly keen on signing him this summer.

The Latest: Di Marzio’s claim on Jesus

Di Marzio has now shared the latest news on the Jesus transfer saga.

Taking to Twitter, he claimed: “.@Arsenal are ready to do everything to close Gabriel #Jesus deal from @ManCity. Meanwhile, @SpursOfficial are also interested and will give it a try. #AFC #THFC”

In the corresponding article, it is reported that Spurs are now moving ‘under the radar’ to intervene in Arsenal’s negotiations with City. The journalist claimed that the deal would be difficult for Tottenham to execute, but Fabio Paratici is nonetheless trying to get it done.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-developments-2/” title=”Tottenham latest developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: He’d be a fantastic signing

When compared with positional peers across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year, Jesus ranks in the 96th percentile for non-penalty expected goals and also for touches in the attacking penalty area (via FBRef).

With Conte’s attacking football often played down the wings, this style of play could suit the Brazilian, who can also be utilised out wide when needed.

With Spurs’ sole striker Harry Kane in need of a backup option, Jesus could come in and play anywhere across Conte’s front line. The 25-year-old also brings the reliability of scoring 95 goals in 236 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side, making him a proven operator at a high level.

Therefore, this would be a great signing for Tottenham for multiple reasons.

Everton could land big Iwobi upgrade in Keane Lewis-Potter

The next few months in Frank Lampard’s managerial career will arguably be his most important, as the start he has endured at Everton hasn’t exactly given the supporters much to savour.

The Toffees narrowly escaped relegation from the Premier League with a 3-2 win over Crystal Palace in their penultimate match on a night when Goodison Park was bouncing.

The Merseyside club have made a decent start to their summer transfer business, already securing the signature of Burnley defender James Tarkowski when his contract expires at the end of the month to improve Lampard’s woeful backline.

The activity probably won’t stop there either, with Everton linked with Chelsea trio Armando Broja, Conor Gallagher and Levi Colwill, although it’s a young Championship prospect who could be next on Lampard’s wish list.

According to Hull Live, the Toffees have been linked with Hull City gem Keane Lewis-Potter, and they face a battle with Brentford in order to bring him to Goodison Park this summer.

A £15m bid may be enough to seal the deal for the talented winger, who scored 13 goals and grabbed four assists last season, and he may be looking to follow former Hull winger Jarrod Bowen in making a move to the Premier League shortly.

Bowen has been a sensation at West Ham, with the east London club reportedly valuing him at £75m after he netted an impressive 17 goals last term for the Irons.

Of course, there are no guarantees that Lewis-Potter will emulate Bowen, but his career has gotten off to an exciting start and a move to Everton could be great for the Hull winger.

The Tigers’ youth coach Craig Fagan lauded him as “similar to how Eden Hazard plays”, and this is high praise indeed for the 21-year-old with lofty ambitions, given that the Belgian is a multiple trophy winner who cost Real Madrid €150m (£129.17m) in 2019.

Lewis-Potter could be a huge upgrade on Alex Iwobi, with the Everton winger only scoring two league goals in what was an underwhelming 2021/22 season, to say the least.

Lampard could do with bringing some added creativity to a stagnating attack, and the Hull youngster appears to fit the bill perfectly. It could be an exciting few weeks ahead for the Goodison Park faithful.

Leeds: Phil Hay drops Tyler Adams news

Leeds United midfield target Tyler Adams may be made available on loan, according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay.

The lowdown

Adams features on a list of midfielders Leeds want to sign following Kalvin Phillips’ departure. Phillips has completed his medical at Manchester City ahead of a transfer worth up to £50million.

Adams, 23, only started 12 Bundesliga games for Leipzig last season, and it seems he’s been deemed surplus to requirements for the upcoming campaign.

He too is a defensive midfielder, one who plays like a ‘quarterback’ in the words of former boss Julian Nagelsmann.

The latest

Hay wrote on Twitter that ‘Leeds United want to ramp up incoming business again’ as Phillips seals his exit.

And ‘Leipzig are considering’ letting Adams, ‘one of Leeds’ midfield options’, leave the club on loan.

The American is expected to move on this summer as he seeks regular game time ahead of the Qatar World Cup.

The verdict

Leeds would surely be delighted if they could get this one done. They could sign a strong replacement for Phillips without necessarily having to spend any immediate money on a transfer fee.

An option or obligation to buy might be included in the deal, but that wouldn’t be a consideration until next summer.

Adams may still be fairly young, but he’s also made 14 appearances in European competition during his time at Leipzig, so he would bring some pedigree.

Compatriot Marsch has already stated, back in 2019 when he was assistant to Ralf Rangnick at Leipzig, that he believes that the player has a ‘massive ceiling’, and he’ll hope to unlock that potential at Elland Road.

Liverpool: Reds receive Asensio boost

Liverpool have reportedly received a double boost in their pursuit of Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio, according to Sport (via Sport Witness).

The lowdown: Summer business

The Reds have acted swiftly so far this summer under the newly appointed sporting director Julian Ward, completing deals for Benfica hitman Darin Nunez, Fulham starlet Fabio Carvalho and Aberdeen youngster Calvin Ramsay.

A number of peripheral squad members such as Takumi Minamino, Divock Origi and Ben Woodburn have all left Anfield as well as superstar winger Sadio Mane as Jurgen Klopp’s squad begins to take shape during pre-season ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Despite reports claiming that the business was completed for the window, speculation continues to link players with the Merseyside club and one well-decorated Spaniard in particularly has been heavily indexed with a switch to the FA Cup winners…

The latest: ‘Liverpool like Asensio’

As per Sport, transcribed by SW, ‘Liverpool like Asensio’ and the 29-cap Spain star ‘looks favourably’ on joining Klopp’s ranks.

It’s claimed that the Spaniard is now willing to lower his salary demands to €6-7million (£5-6million) net per year whilst Real Madrid will reduce the asking price from €50million (£42million) to €30million (£25million) due to being in the final 12 months of a deal at the Bernabeu.

The report also states that Klopp has personally ‘requested’ the signing of the 26-year-old who was hailed for a ‘brilliant’ La Liga hat-trick against former club RCD Mallorca last September.

The verdict: Smart move

Although the Anfield ranks still boast an embarrassment of riches in the attacking department, there is no natural senior understudy for Mohamed Salah on the right-wing – a role Asensio primarily occupied last season whilst scoring 12 times and providing two assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.

Overall, the Spaniard with an abundance of talent that once saw him tipped for Ballon d’Or glory earned a sensational 7.07 Sofascore rating, hitting the target with 1.1 shots and making 1.0 key pass on average per game in the Spanish top flight.

Possessing wide-ranging versatility to play numerous positions and all of the attributes in his locker to succeed in the Premier League, at the suggested new price, signing Asensio would be a superb coup for Ward in what has already been a stellar start to life as the successor to Michael Edwards.

Nottingham Forest to make O’Brien bid

Nottingham Forest are getting stuck into the summer transfer window ahead of their long-awaited return to the Premier League, and now a new update has emerged from a reliable source on the club’s next steps.

What’s the latest?

According to the senior writer for The Athletic Daniel Taylor, Nottingham Forest will make a bid for Lewis O’Brien with the midfield becoming a priority for the club.

Taylor tweeted:

“Midfield now priority for NFFC (and wing-backs). Forest will go in for Lewis O’Brien at #HTAFC as well as Harry Toffolo. Others also targeted.”

Supporters will be excited

There is no doubt that supporters will be excited to see Forest making so many moves in the transfer market to bolster and improve their team ahead of a difficult challenge upon their return to the Premier League next month, as they can put themselves in a great position to compete with the right signings.

O’Brien has had an impressive season at Huddersfield Town, with his performance helping the side get to the Championship play-off final at Wembley only losing out to, ironically, Nottingham Forest at the last hurdle to crush their dreams of promotion back into the top-flight.

The 23-year-old scored three goals, delivered three assists and created four big chances as he showed off his immense attacking skills.

He also made one key pass, 2.2 tackles and took 1.1 shots on average per game, as well as winning the majority of his duels (51%) while he was successful in completing the vast majority of his dribble attempts (70%).

This output over his 43 Championship appearances proves that the young midfielder is capable of being a consistent nuisance for his opponents in both attacking and defensive play, something Steve Cooper would highly value in his Forest team next season.

Former Huddersfield manager Carlos Corberan even branded the player “special” in a press conference last season, praising O’Brien’s versatility and effectiveness in positioning.

Corberan claimed (via Yorkshire Live):

“It’s not only the fact that Lewis O’Brien can compete at a top-level every single time he plays whatever position he is on the football pitch, it’s how he reacts to how you make him play in different positions.

“There is what makes him a special player and that is the fact that means I don’t see limits in his career and I don’t see limits in his potential.”

With that being said, the signing of O’Brien would be a major coup for Nottingham Forest as he is not only clearly very talented but can offer Cooper the depth in a number of roles, which could see him become a very valuable asset to the manager in the Premier League next season.

Newcastle target Emmanuel Dennis

Respected journalist Ben Jacobs has made a significant claim involving Newcastle United and Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis.

The lowdown: Two offered

So far Eddie Howe has added Sven Botman, Nick Pope and loanee Matt Targett to the St James’ Park ranks this summer, stopping short of wholesale alterations or indeed any attacking additions as things stand.

Recently linked with sensational moves for Alexander Isak and Moussa Diaby, the possibility of either arriving on Tyneside was seemingly put to bed by a report from The Telegraph claiming that PIF were unwilling to reach the demands required.

Following a report from ChronicleLive claiming that recently relegated duo Burnley and Watford have offered Maxwel Cornet and Dennis to the Magpies during the summer transfer window, one informed onlooker has cast his judgement on which option Howe would turn towards…

The latest: ‘Howe’s preference…’

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jacobs, a reporter for CBS Sports, has claimed that the Toon outfit would opt for a move for Watford’s seven-cap Nigerian.

He explained: “Newcastle are also considering Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet and Emmanuel Dennis. Dennis seems to be Howe’s preference between the two and Watford are very open to a sale.”

The verdict: Wise choice

Although Cornet made a instant impact upon arriving in the Premier League, one year younger at 24 and offering an abundance of attacking threats due to an ability to play numerous positions as well as a willingness to contribute defensively (WhoScored), Dennis appears to be the safer bet when it comes to top targets.

Last season the speedy Nigerian forward – who was hailed by journalist Josh Bunting for an ‘absolutely electric’  8.10 rated Sofascore display whilst bagging a brace against Manchester United – scored ten times and provided six assists in 33 top flight outings, earning an impressive 6.80 average rating, completing 2.1 successful dribbles and winning 6.2 duels per game in the process overall.

Available for a mooted £20million and also targeted by Everton, Dan Ashworth, PIF and indeed Howe should waste no time in making their intentions known in finding much-needed support for a misfiring Chris Wood and injury-prone Callum Wilson.

Crystal Palace set to sign Chris Richards

Crystal Palace are moving closer to the signing of Bayern Munich defender Chris Richards, according to SportBILD journalist Christian Falk.

The lowdown: Busy summer

So far during the summer transfer window, Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman have added Sam Johnstone, Malcolm Ebiowei and Cheick Doucoure to Patrick Vieira’s ranks ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

In terms of outgoings, only Martin Kelly and lesser-seen central defender Jaroslaw Jach have left Selhurst Park – both on a free transfer following the expiration of their contracts.

After weeks of reported interest from the Eagles, now it appears as though Freedman and Vieira have landed their next incoming to South East London…

The latest: ‘On the way’

Taking to Twitter, Falk – the Head of Football at reputable German outlet SportBILD – has claimed that Richards is heading to the capital to complete the switch.

He stated: “TRUE Chris Richards (22) @FCBayern is on the way to the medical-check for a Transfer to @CPFC.”

Meanwhile, a report from BBC Sport has confirmed that Palace will pay €10million (£8.5million) plus €3million (£2.5million) in add-ons to sign the six-cap USA international.

The verdict: Happy days

Predominantly operating as a central defender, Richards – who was hailed as an ‘athletic freak’ by former USA national team scout Thomas Rongen – can also play on either side as a full-back and therefore is a smart squad addition to Vieira’s ranks.

Last season, the 22-year-old American spent time on loan at Hoffenheim, making Sofascore rating whilst winning 4.4 duels, making 2.4 clearances and 1.1 interceptions on average per Bundesliga outing.

That form combined with the £6.7million valued Richards’ fledgeling years, makes the defender another exciting capture as Palace continue to show a penchant for signing highly regarded youth prospects who can develop further during their time at Selhurst Park.

Romano confirms Dwight McNeil to Everton

Everton had a slow start to the transfer window but it looks like their approach for targets are starting to take off, and a new update from a reliable source has seemingly confirmed another signing.

What’s the latest?

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Toffees have secured a deal to sign Burnley winger Dwight McNeil.

The transfer insider tweeted: “Everton are set to complete Dwight McNeil deal. Full agreement with Burnley, fee could reach £19/20m add-ons included – Lampard trusts him as good talent for present and future.”

“Medical ongoing, McNeil will follow Vinagre as new Everton signing very soon.”

It’s good news

There is no doubt that Frank Lampard and the Goodison Park faithful will be buzzing with the good news that the squad is finally being strengthened, especially with Richarlison making a move to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.

Everton are in desperate need of reinforcements this summer after struggling with a relegation scrap at the bottom of the Premier League last season, so the imminent signing of McNeil will surely be warmly welcomed.

Despite being relegated with Burnley in 2021/22, the winger has been a consistent and reliable performer for the Clarets, tallying 147 appearances for the club since joining them from Manchester United’s youth academy back in 2014.

Over 38 league appearances last term, the 22-year-old delivered one assist and created six big chances, making 1.3 key passes and 2.1 tackles and taking 1.4 shots per game. He also won the majority of his duels (54%) and was successful in completing the majority of his dribble attempts (60%).

McNeil has scored seven goals and delivered 17 assists for Burnley in total, proving that he is more of a creative winger than a goal-scoring threat. That could make him the perfect selfless attacking partner for Dominic Calvert-Lewin going forward, which could naturally improve and increase the 25-year-old’s goalscoring opportunities.

The imminent signing of McNeil is a great piece of business for Everton, and if Lampard can get the very best out of the young talent, he could be a fantastic attacking threat when the Toffees return to competitive action next week.
