Man Utd fans find silver lining in Brandon Williams’ Europa League display

In a rather underwhelming start to the current campaign, Manchester United haven’t exactly had too much to shout about.

Mason Greenwood’s emergence onto the scene has arguably been the one bright spark, and after the game against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night, Brandon Williams may offer the Red Devils some hope for the future too.

The 19-year-old made his Europa League debut against the Dutch side, and in a largely poor team performance, was one of the rare individuals to come away with some credit.

The teenager registered a 90% pass accuracy on his 59 passes, and made two tackles over the course of the game. As per Sofascore, his 7.4 match rating was the third-highest of any United player.

After seeing the academy product’s display, United fans flooded to Twitter to share their thoughts about the latest youngster to make his mark on the first-team.

Many supporters of the Manchester side insisted Williams represented the only silver lining of the match, and praised his performance.

Some Red Devils fans even suggested he is already better than Luke Shaw, and urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to give him a regular chance in the first-team.

Leeds fans praise Bielsa after he apologises for wrongdoing against West Brom

From spygate to gifting a goal to Aston Villa, Marcelo Bielsa has never been too far away from controversy at Leeds, but fans are supporting him after he apologised for his actions and that of his coaching staff on Tuesday.

The Argentine admitted he was in the wrong after more than two of his coaches entered the Leeds technical area against West Brom, which prompted the referee to book them accordingly.

Bielsa said he was unaware of the rule but apologised for making the mistake, leading to an outpour of praise from many Leeds fans, with some likening him to a saint.

His honesty and integrity has also been commented upon, and it seems supporters are delighted to have him in the dugout for his personality as much as his managerial ability.

Leeds travel to Millwall on Saturday and will look to maintain their place at the top of the table, and a win is likely to please these Leeds fans even more.

Leeds United fans blast Mateusz Klich after 2-1 defeat to Millwall

Leeds United’s Mateusz Klich has started in all 11 of their Championship matches so far this campaign, but it appears his latest showing has left several supporters fuming.Marcelo Bielsa’s side were defeated 2-1 at Millwall on Saturday afternoon with the result seeing them sink to fifth place in the table.United had to play the majority of the game with ten men after centre-back Gaetano Berardi received his marching orders in the 14th minute.Millwall midfielder Jed Wallace scored the resulting penalty before Tom Bradshaw doubled the advantage on the stroke of half-time.Watch Leeds United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The Whites were able to grab one back through left-back Ezgjan Alioski’s 46th-minute strike, but they couldn’t find that all-important equaliser despite recording 75.5% possession in the final 30 minutes, per WhoScored.

Several of the Elland Road faithful were left angry at the performance of Klich in the heart of midfield, with some of them taking to Twitter to share their thoughts.

One supporter claimed it was criminal to see the 29-year-old play the full 90 minutes while another called for him to be dropped next game.

‘Shocking,’ ‘horrible’ and ‘appalling’ were just three other words used to describe his display.

Who ‘won’ the transfer window? Assessing London’s Premier League squads

The Premier League is back, and the 2019/20 season is set to be the best one yet after a fascinating transfer window. But which London club do you think fared best when it comes to summer business? Who’s your bet on to finish top of the pile in London this year? Let’s take a look at the comings and goings from the five clubs based in the capital ready for this brand new season.

Arsenal

It was a surprise to everyone given Arsenal’s transfer window history, but the Gunners had a successful – even exciting – summer. Not only did Unai Emery bring in dynamic attacking options, but after a long time of fans calling for it, fresh legs have been added in the defence.

A big bonus of this window for Arsenal is that Kieran Tierney and Nicolas Pépé are 22 and 24 respectively and therefore both at the perfect age to build for the future. While new Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was happy to sell David Luiz as he wasn’t going to factor in his starting 11, Emery has worked with Luiz before at PSG.

Main signings:

  • Nicolas Pépé – Lille, £72m
  • William Saliba – St‑Étienne, £27m
  • Kieran Tierney – Celtic, £25m
  • David Luiz – Chelsea, £8m
  • Gabriel Martinelli – Ituano, £6m
  • Dani Ceballos – Real Madrid, loan

Tottenham Hotspur

Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs did some late business by bringing in Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso on the summer deadline day. However, fans are still showing some concern for the defensive strength of the squad. This season will definitely be about aiming for trophies after a third-place finish in the league and reaching the Champions League final.

Main signings:

  • Tanguy Ndombele – Lyon, £55.5m
  • Jack Clarke – Leeds, £10m
  • Giovani Lo Celso – Real Betis, loan
  • Ryan Sessegnon – Fulham, £25m.

Crystal Palace

After a 16th place finish in the league for the 2018/19 campaign, Palace and Roy Hodgson will be aiming for much more from this season. The main challenge for Hodgson, however, will be utilising Wilfried Zaha and reintroducing him to the squad after making his desire to leave quite plain. Palace have made some strong signings to bolster the squad, and bringing in Gary Cahill for free from Chelsea is a great move. The central defender still has a lot to offer and will be an asset.

Main signings:

  • Jordan Ayew – Swansea, £3m
  • James McCarthy – Everton, £3m
  • Gary Cahill – Chelsea, free
  • Victor Camarasa – Real Betis, loan
  • Stephen Henderson, free.

Chelsea

Frank Lampard is going to have a bit of a challenge on his hands thanks to Chelsea’s transfer ban. However, owing to a loophole in that two-window transfer suspension (it’s a registration ban technically), the Blues managed to sign both Mateo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic. Most of their summer business came from outgoing players for sale, on loan and released. The most high-profile of those being Eden Hazard to Real Madrid for £88.5m – it’s just a shame they can’t spend the money from that big sale for a while.

Main signings:

  • Mateo Kovacic – Real Madrid, £40.2m
  • Christian Pulisic – Borussia Dortmund, £58m

West Ham

The Hammers are another club where the defence seems to be the main concern. The Hammers have done good business in the summer, though, with a lot of outgoing players and they also broke their transfer record. Sébastien Haller and Albian Ajeti are both young, exciting and dynamic strikers – Manuel Pellegrini will hope they both light up the London Stadium and paper over the cracks of their defensive worries.

Main signings:

  • Sébastien Haller – Eintracht Frankfurt £40.7m
  • Pablo Fornals – Villarreal, £24m
  • Albian Ajeti – Basel, £8m
  • Gonçalo Cardoso – Boavista, undiscl

So, who won the window?

It’s hard to look past Arsenal’s summer business, mainly because we’re used to seeing no transfer window activity at the Emirates – but this feels like a new era. Spurs have also done some top quality business and Chelsea did the best they could considering their ban. But it will certainly be interesting to see what the Gunners can do after injecting some additional talent into their squad this season.

Leeds fans left debating who should get a statue at Elland Road

It may have passed you by, but Leeds United celebrated their 100th-anniversary last week.

There were a number of events to commemorate the occasion, all culminating with the gathering of 100 Legends.

However, one supporter thought that the whole thing needn’t stop there.

He posed the question to other fans about who should be the next person to get a statue outside the ground, joining the two that are already there in the form of Don Revie and Billy Bremner.

It led to a bit of a fiery debate with nobody able to quite come to an agreement on who should get the honour.

There were those who tried their best just to keep it to one person as Lucas Radebe was thrown into the hat, as was Jack Charlton.

But they were just two of many names to get a shout out.

Here’s a variety of different suggestions that were discussed on Twitter.

You suppose the lack of clarity from the responses is a good thing, isn’t it? It goes to show how many great players have come through the door at the club. If they all thought it should go to one person, that shows that you haven’t really had that many ‘legends’.

Liverpool can be beaten if Mohamed Salah doesn’t play, says Genk manager

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Genk manager Felice Mazzu believes that his side may be able to get something from Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Liverpool, but only on the basis, that star man Mohamed Salah does not feature.

What’s the word?

The Egyptian missed the 1-1 draw against Manchester United on Sunday due to an ankle injury before the international break, and could be back in contention for the Reds’ third game of their European campaign.

The Belgian outfit has not had the best of returns to the Champions League after an eight-year absence. Blauw-Wit were thrashed 6-2 by RB Salzburg in their opening game and held to a 0-0 draw by group leaders Napoli at the Luminus Arena.

Find out why Manchester United vs. Liverpool is “no longer an elite fixture” in the video below…

Liverpool’s results haven’t been much better after only picking up three points in their first two games. A defeat to Napoli and a win against RB Salzburg put the Merseyside club in second place in Group E.

The Genk boss spoke in his pre-match press conference and believes that they have a chance if Salah is absent.

Quoted by TuttoMercatoWeb, he said: “We hope that Salah will not play, in that case, they will play a different style.

“If we play with the same conviction we had against Napoli, I think we can do something, even if Liverpool is even better (than Napoli).”

One eye on Tottenham

The Reds will not ignore the Premier League game against Spurs that awaits them on Sunday and may choose to rest the 27-year-old entirely, or risk aggravating his ankle further by playing him out in Belgium. However, having lost to Napoli already, they cannot afford to slip further behind Gli Azzuri if they manage to beat RB Salzburg.

The presence of a creative midfielder in the form of Naby Keita or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would reduce the need for Salah to play, and keep him fresh for the Tottenham game.

Despite having a tricky first season at Anfield since his £48m move from RB Leipzig, Keita will want to show manager Jurgen Klopp why he should be starting regularly for Liverpool. His final season at the Bundesliga outfit saw him score six goals and provide five assists, as well as accumulate a passing accuracy of 81.4%. This illustrates the quality that he and what he can offer the team when the Guinea international is playing well.

His other option is to feature Oxlade-Chamberlain in the midfield trio. The 26-year-old put his name in lights at Anfield after a 25-yard strike against Manchester City helped the Reds beat the Citizens 3-0 in the Champions League in 2018.

During his first campaign in the Premier League, the Englishman scored three times and assisted on seven occasions before sustaining multiple cruciate ligament damage in his knee against Roma. The setback saw him miss the majority of the 2018/19 campaign.

The manager has alternatives that he can go to if he needs them. Regardless of Mazzu’s comments, this Liverpool side is more than capable of beating Genk, with or without Salah.

Tottenham fans are excited by the prospect of signing Max Aarons

Tottenham fans have been discussing the possibility of signing Norwich City’s Max Aarons on Twitter, and it is a transfer they are excited by.

The Daily Mail have reported that the club has taken an interest with Mauricio Pochettino keen to add both “athleticism and energy” to his squad, both of which are traits Aarons possesses.

The right-back burst onto the scene with the Canaries last season and was an important player in their promotion push, making 43 appearances, and his performances have been recognised with recent call-ups to the England U21s.

Nathan Ferguson is another player the club is believed to be monitoring, and like him Aarons would provide attacking intent down Spurs’ right-flank, as highlighted by his six assists last year.

Mauricio Pochettino is likely keen to improve in the position with Serge Aurier an unreliable option having disappointed often this season.

The fact the Argentine has used four different players there this season, including Kyle Walker-Peters, Davinson Sanchez and even Moussa Sissoko highlights the lack of depth, and that means Aarons could be a realistic purchase.

However, he only signed a new contract with Norwich in the summer, and with the club languishing in the relegation zone it is unlikely that the club want to sell, and therefore Tottenham may have to wait until the summer.

Nevertheless, the rumour is offering encouragement to fans, some of which are keen on signing him.

Man City fans react to fresh Leroy Sane transfer report

Manchester City fans seem to be split on the idea of letting Leroy Sane depart the club to join Bayern Munich. Reports from Sky Germany say the winger could join the German giants and City are eyeing up Mikel Oyarzabal as his replacement.

Some fans are not so happy about this and are hoping the £37m man stays. However, other supporters would like to see Oyarzabal, whilst some fans have even suggested an audacious swap deal for Serge Gnabry.

The Real Sociedad forward has been in great form this season, scoring four times and providing three assists in La Liga. As a result, the Spanish side sits third in the table, one point off the leaders Getafe.

Sane will be sidelined for the majority of the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in the Community Shield.

As a result of his absence this campaign, it could be easy to forget that the German has scored 20 goals and provided 25 assists in the league over the past two seasons.

It is tough to question Sane’s form since joining City, as he has been one of Europe’s brightest young talents in that time.

However, not every fan is on board with keeping hold of him, but some supporters are desperate for his stay…

Aston Villa fans drool over Douglas Luiz’s performance vs Wolves in the Carabao Cup

Aston Villa advanced into the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup after they defeated local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers at Villa Park on Wednesday night.

They will face this weekend’s Premier League opponents Liverpool in the next round after Jurgen Klopp’s side defeated Arsenal on penalties having battled out a ten-goal thriller in regulation time.

Anwar El Ghazi and Ahmed Elmohamady got on the scoresheet for Villa with Patrick Cutrone bagging the visitors’ only goal.

Dean Smith rotated his side, giving the likes of Keinan Davis and Ezri Konsa a rare opportunity, but he also kept Trezeguet and Douglas Luiz in the starting line up.

And it was the performance from the Brazilian which has left fans up in B6 literally salivating over his contribution to the win.

One supporter claimed the potential the 21-year-old holds is ‘scary’ while another believed Luiz ran the game from midfield.

‘Sensational’ and ‘absolutely class’ were just two of the other phrases used to describe his showing.

A further member of the Villa Park faithful went as far as saying that the former Manchester City ace was ‘levels above every player on the pitch’ on Wednesday night.

Leeds fans comment as Mateusz Klich earns Poland spot

A number of Leeds United fans have mixed views on Mateusz Klich’s selection in the Poland squad for their upcoming Euro 2020 qualification matches.

Klich has featured in all but one of his country’s last 10 matches in all competitions, and therefore his inclusion in the squad for the two matches against Israel and Slovenia later this month is not a surprise.

However, some Leeds supporters appear shocked that the 6-foot midfielder has been selected due to his recent struggles at club level.

That opinion, though, is not shared by everyone.

The 29-year-old has only managed one goal and one assist in 15 Championship appearances for Marcelo Bielsa’s side this season.

As a midfielder, Klich’s main task is not to score goals, but he has featured higher up the field in seven of Leeds’ last eight Championship matches and has not managed to register a goal or an assist.
