Newcastle enjoyed a busy January transfer window as Eddie Howe made a host of fresh additions to his Magpies squad.

Dan Burn, Matt Targett, Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes and Chris Wood all came through the door as they bolstered their team during PIF’s first chance to show off their spending power.

Attention may now turn to the summer as the club will potentially spend again to compete higher up in the Premier League table if they are able to avoid relegation this term.

La Repubblica (via MilanNews) recently reported that the Toon are one of a number of clubs circling around Franck Kessie heading into the summer, as he is set to become a free agent upon the expiry of his contract with the Serie A side.

Newcastle could find their dream upgrade on Jonjo Shelvey and an excellent partner for Bruno Guimaraes by landing Kessie on a free transfer.

In the Serie A last term, he scored 13 goals and provided four assists. He also averaged 2.6 tackles and interceptions per game, proving that he is a player who can have an impact at both ends of the pitch with his ability to change games in the final third and his robustness defensively.

Milan head coach Stefano Pioli previously lauded the midfielder, saying: “There was some problem at the beginning, then we understood each other and now he is indispensable for my Milan. Even in difficult moments of the game he is always positive and his teammates recognize this.”

Shelvey, meanwhile, managed one goal and three assists, whilst making 2.5 tackles and interceptions per game. This suggests that Kessie could be a major improvement on him as he is far superior in the attacking third of the pitch and on a similar level heading towards his own goal.

The Ivorian international is also four years younger than the former Liverpool man. This means that the machine could have plenty more years ahead of him to develop as a player and exceed what Shelvey has been able to produce in a Magpies shirt, with Eddie Howe potentially being able to improve him on the training pitch.

Along with being an upgrade on Shelvey, he could also slot in nicely alongside Guimaraes. The Brazilian averaged 3.6 tackles and interceptions along with 1.8 key passes per game in Ligue 1 this season for Lyon, which suggests that he is a tough-tackling creative midfielder – compared to Kessie’s tough-tackling, goalscoring, style of play.

They could, therefore, complement each other well as they both look to get stuck in defensively and could work well as a pair off the ball to cut out opposition attacks. On the ball, however, Guimaraes could be tasked with the creative side of the game and leave his teammate to make late runs into the box in an attempt to score, which could make them an exciting pair.

A entrega da camisa e da placa ao treinador aconteceu sem a presença da imprensa, sendo apenas registrada pelos veículos oficiais do Fluminense. Em maio de 2017, quando Abel chegou aos 250 jogos, uma coletiva foi convocada e teve a participação de Pedro Abad, Marcelo Teixeira e Alexandre Torres.

O presidente Abad encheu o experiente comandante de elogios e reforçou o desejo de contar com Abel Braga por muitas outras partidas do Fluminense.

-Falar do Abel é pleonasmo, é um cara diferenciado. Quando o trouxe de volta, disse que ele seria o segundo técnico com mais jogos e cumprimos isso. Fico muito feliz que ele continua aqui com a gente, espero que fique por muito tempo. Tudo sempre é pouco para homenageá-lo – afirmou o presidente Abad.

Nesta terça-feira, Pedro Abad foi ao CTPA e entregou camisa e placa a Abel Braga pelos 300 jogos.

Everton secured a massive win against Manchester United this afternoon at Goodison Park, which in turn has given Frank Lampard a lifeline in the club’s current relegation battle with just eight games to go.

Despite no movement in league position following their victory, the Toffees have gained a four-point cushion distancing themselves from the relegation zone ahead of Burnley’s clash with Norwich on Sunday. Thanks to the three points added to Everton’s tally today, the Clarets won’t be able to switch places with their relegation rivals tomorrow even if they win at Carrow Road.

While Everton had less possession than United today, they were able to hold onto a clean sheet and an 27th-minute lead after boyhood Evertonian Anthony Gordon netted the winner with a deflected goal which secured their third victory of Lampard’s tenure.

That being said, there was one player who was completely ineffective throughout the game, and without the impressive and resilient performances of his team-mates around him, Dominic Calvert-Lewin could have cost Everton dearly.

According to SofaScore, the Toffees striker – who was previously dubbed “wasteful” by Greg O’Keeffe – had fewer touches than Jordan Pickford, completed just nine passes and had no shots on or off target. He also lost the ball 14 times with his 26 touches before he was sent to the bench by his manager in the 71st minute to be replaced by Demarai Gray.

Calvert-Lewin has spent a large part of this season out injured after sustaining a quadricep problem and a broken toe last August which kept him sidelined until the turn of the year, and he has since suffered a knock and an adductor injury.

Although the England striker has suffered these injuries, he has still made 10 appearances since he returned to fitness in the winter, but has still not scored a single goal since netting against Brighton in August before his long-term injury problems.

His lack of goals is starting to take its toll, especially when you consider Everton’s vulnerable position in the league table, and Calvert-Lewin could easily have fingers pointed at him when reviewing what went wrong should the club face its first relegation from the Premier League next month.

Lampard will have a tough decision to make over the upcoming fixtures in deciding which players will be able to carry Everton through their relegation storm and provide top-flight survival on the other side. It will be interesting to see if Calvert-Lewin keeps his place following his abysmal performance against United today.

Netherlands allrounder Ryan ten Doeschate is fast becoming a globe-trotting Twenty20 freelancer. Shortly after he signed with Tasmania for the Big Bash in 2010-11, Canterbury Wizards have also snapped him up for New Zealand’s domestic Twenty20 competition in the coming season.”Ryan is not a name signing as such, but he is a player Bob Carter [Canterbury’s coach] identified early on who had the skill set we are looking for,” Canterbury’s chief executive, Lee Germon, said. “It fitted in quite nicely as Tasmania were also talking to Ryan the same time we were, and we have worked out an arrangement where he can play for both.”Ten Doeschate has been an effective allrounder for English county, Essex, and is likely to bat in the top order and bowl four overs of medium pace for Canterbury. He led the batting averages for Essex in the Friends Provident t20 this year, making 296 runs in six matches at an average of 59.20. He also had the best economy-rate for his side, conceding 6.81 runs an over, though he bowled only 11 overs.Canterbury are also keen on signing Australian fast bowler Shaun Tait as their second Twenty20 import and are awaiting final clearance from Cricket Australia. “[2011] Being a World Cup year Cricket Australia will have a big say on how he [Tait] is to be managed,” Germon said. “”If he [Tait] could only play one or two games [for Canterbury] then we might have to look around for another import.”New Zealand domestic sides are allowed to field only two overseas players in their Twenty20 domestic competition, but there is no limit on how many can be on the team’s roster.
