Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka has raised big question over Tierney

Has there been a bigger break-out star in the Premier League this season than Bukayo Saka?

The Arsenal youngster has lit up the Emirates with his fearless performances this season, and to think that he is still only 18 years old is truly startling.

The Gunners academy product provided yet another assist in the victory over Everton on Sunday afternoon, delivering an inch-perfect cross for Eddie Nketiah to steer home. It meant that Saka is now the north London side’s top assists holder for this season, with nine to his name – the man in second? £72m star Nicolas Pepe with eight.

But whilst Saka continues to steal the show, there may be one man who might be wondering where he stands in all of this.

Kieran Tierney arrived from Celtic last summer in a £25m deal, and at 22, would have fancied being the Gunners’ first-choice left-back for the next decade or so. After all, he had been part of an all-conquering Scottish side that had won multiple league titles, and built up major experience of playing in Europe – he made 45 appearances across both the Europa League and Champions League.

The man signed by Emery now faces a more uncertain immediate future. The Scotland international is closing in on a return to first-team action following the dislocated shoulder he suffered against West Ham back when Freddie Ljungberg was in interim charge.

Who is that?! Nobody has been able to name the teams all of these obscure managers were once in charge of…

Whilst even a month or so ago he would have felt that he could just walk straight back into the side, now there are far bigger doubts. Saka’s impressive displays have captured the imagination of the Arsenal faithful. You only have to look at the rapturous applause he received when he came on for an injured Sead Kolasinac against Everton to show how much the Gunners fans have taken to him.

Arteta will now find it extremely difficult to leave Saka out of the team for the foreseeable future, and for all intents and purposes, Tierney may have to be satisfied by being a on-looker. The club’s summer signing is already facing an uphill battle in his Arsenal career.

Meanwhile, Arsenal should be thanking this man instead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the win against Everton.

Tottenham’s Serge Aurier is enjoying an impressive season

When you think of Serge Aurier, the first thing that perhaps comes to mind is of a player who recklessly dives in for challenges and concedes mind-numbing penalties.

And in truth, the Ivory Coast international has had his fair share of his daft moments since joining Tottenham for a reported £23m back in 2017.

By the end of October 2019, Aurier had conceded four spot-kicks for the club, whilst he also hit back at a fan on social media for criticising him in the aftermath of Spurs’ 2-0 win over Manchester City earlier this month – a game which saw him needlessly bring down Sergio Aguero inside the box.

When asked earlier this campaign whether the Ivorian is top-four quality, former Spurs striker Darren Bent remarked: “No, personally no. Defensively, he’s all over the place, positionally, he’s all over the place. People aimed a lot of Trippier but you knew what you were getting from Trippier. Aurier, he’s powerful, but he’s often left wanting.”

But whilst the 27-year-old signed by Mauricio Pochettino has had a couple of nightmare moments this season like the one against City, his statistics this season in the Premier League have been impressive to say the least.

As per Whoscored, Aurier ranks incredibly highly for a number of key stats for Spurs, including offensively and defensively. This is a man who can contribute effectively at both ends of the pitch, and does so better than most of the north London side’s players.

But when you give away penalties, particularly on games aired on national TV, then those are the memories that stick out like a sore thumb for fans and pundits alike. Those are the types of incidents that make the highlights package and end up getting entrenched in your brain. All the good things that are done simply get forgotten.

Who on earth is that?!?! Can you name all of these obscure January signings?

The 27-year-old is a consistently influential performer for the Lilywhites, with no-one making more tackles per game than him, and only one providing more assists and interceptions.

Aurier has enjoyed a productive campaign going forward and back, and he is surely beginning to silence the doubters.

Meanwhile, Tottenham should exploit this ace as an attacking midfielder.

Garry Monk staying at Sheffield Wednesday according to Alan Nixon

Garry Monk is a manager under pressure currently, but according to journalist Alan Nixon his job at Sheffield Wednesday is not yet under threat.

The Owls boss took over in August and at Christmas he had guided his side to third place in the Championship, but things have severely unravelled since then.

Wednesday picked up a much-needed win in mid-week but followed that up by producing a familiar defeat at home to Derby, their third in five games.

The Owls showed brilliant spirit to fight for the three points against Charlton, too, scoring in the dying seconds to spark passionate celebrations, yet they found themselves 3-0 down at half-time to Phillip Cocu’s team.

A late consolation goal from Josh Windass made the scoreline slightly more respectable but four shots on target simply isn’t good enough if the South Yorkshire outfit are to end their rut.

Nevertheless, despite growing frustrations amongst supporters Monk is thought to be safe in his role, according to Nixon.

His update comes in response to a fan asking about a rumour that a new manager has been lined up to take over, but it appears Monk will be given more time to prove himself.

It may be possible that the board will assess his performance over the remaining matches this season, as surely any continuation of the recent run of two wins in 13 league games will raise doubts about Monk’s future.

Who the heck is that?! Can you name all of these obscure Sheffield Wednesday players…

Elsewhere, Owls’ fans have been piling criticism on one player for his performance against Derby.

Man United fans discuss Jesse Lingard

Jesse Lingard has slipped down the pecking order at Manchester United, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now wary of playing him in big games.

However, this has seemingly not dented the England international’s confidence, as it is suggested by Goal that he regards himself as one of the best number 10s in Europe.

This revelation has left plenty of Man United fans in complete and utter disbelief.

There are some fans who have taken this as an opportunity to criticise the 27-year-old and his agent Mino Raiola.

He has made just 17 starts and 17 substitute appearances across all competitions this season, and it is pretty hard to see how one of the best players in their position could be used so infrequently.

How well do you really know the Premier League’s greatest ever manager? Find out below…

In addition to that, he doesn’t even have that much of a general impact when he’s on the pitch, having made 1 key pass and 0.5 dribbles per Premier League game.

There are also fans who have found this statement so outrageous that they have begun laughing at the academy graduate.

Lingard has only scored two goals in all competitions, which have come against Tranmere Rovers and FC Astana – this is hardly reminiscent of somebody who is among the best number 10s in Europe.

With all of this in mind, it isn’t hard to see why United fans are surprised, as this type of attitude is delusional.

Meanwhile, Man United fans have been raving about one man.

Harry Kane’s legacy could be boosted by Euro postponement

We’re in uncharted territory when it comes to the future of football.

For the first time since the Premier League era began, the season has been called off, and England isn’t the only country being affected in this way.

Serie A, La Liga and MLS have also been called off, and plenty have reported that there are some serious question marks about whether or not Euro 2020 will go ahead as planned.

While this summer’s premier football tournament being postponed would be an absolute tragedy, there is one man who could benefit from the Euros being moved.

Harry Kane’s fitness has been an issue that has plagued him throughout this season, and there have been worries that he wouldn’t be able to recover in time to lead the line for England at this summer’s championships.

Even if he was able to come back, there would have been questions about whether or not he would return at 100% after such a long period on the sidelines.

However, if the Euros are moved, the England captain will have a much better chance of being at his best for the tournament, and that won’t only help the Three Lions’ chance of winning the tournament, but it will also boost his chances of cementing his legacy within the game.

The Spurs man is hot on the heels of Wayne Rooney when it comes to being his country’s all-time record scorer, scoring 32 goals in 45 caps – the latter meanwhile has 53. Kane will want to be at the peak of his powers whenever he plays for England to give himself the greatest chance of beating the former Manchester United star’s tally.

Not only that, but he will also have one eye on the Golden Boot at the Euros to go alongside his World Cup top scorer award he won back in 2018, as it would make him only the second player in history after Gerd Muller to top the scoring charts in both tournaments.

Kane’s legacy could certainly benefit from the postponement of the Euros.

In other news, Tottenham have been told they’ve missed a trick with one man.

Rangers loanee Jamie Murphy in outstanding form

Tear up whatever prior arrangement that may have been had – Rangers’ Jamie Murphy is well and truly back.

The winger’s time at Ibrox started in brilliant fashion after he arrived in January of 2018, going on to score six times and register 13 assists in just 29 outings.

However, since then, it’s been a tale of frustration for the 30-year-old whose days with the Light Blues looked completely numbered.

A cruciate ligament injury in August 2018 ruled him out for an entire season, missing 52 matches and 302 days.

Now, with just a year on his contract remaining, his future is far from certain. He hasn’t played for the Gers at all this term but is enjoying a sensational revival south of the border with Burton Albion.

On loan with the Brewers in League One, he’s giving Steven Gerrard something to think about. In short, his performances should have the former Liverpool midfielder salivating from the mouth.

Since signing in January, the ex-Motherwell man has played ten times. What’s so incredible, therefore, is that he’s already rattled the back of the net on seven occasions.

There have only been three matches so far where he’s failed to contribute to a single goal, scoring twice in his last match before the season was suspended.

He has six goal involvements in his last six matches too, displaying remarkable consistency for someone who had such a long period out with injury. He’s been awe-inspiring for Burton, also providing a glimpse of what he’s like when at full fitness. That for Rangers should be the most pleasing aspect of his successful spell away so far.

Murphy has a year remaining on his current deal with Rangers but a recent report claims he could still be on his way out of Glasgow on a permanent deal.

A football legend: Can you get over 80% on this Gazza quiz? Find out now…

Whether that should be the case will probably cause division but he’s certainly showing he can be a useful asset. With Ianis Hagi and Sheyi Ojo due back at their respective parent clubs next season, there will be another opening for Murphy to work himself into future plans.

The wide man has done all he can while in England to prove himself but whether it’s enough only time will tell. It’s surely impossible for Gerrard to ignore what he’s achieved so far – he’s been nothing short of outstanding.

Meanwhile, Rangers must avoid a repeat Tugay situation with £9m TRANSFER swoop…

Spurs fans laugh off Erling Haaland speculation

Clearly, a third week without football is sending people delirious as an audacious transfer report has sent plenty of Tottenham Hotspur fans into overdrive this week.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is very keen on making an audacious ploy to land Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Braut Haaland at the end of the season.

The 19-year-old, who was born in England, only joined the Bundesliga outfit in January, but it’s claimed the likes of the north Londoners as well as Manchester United and Juventus continue to monitor his progress closely.

Many fans of the Lilywhites have simply laughed off this outrageous claim, and here’s what they have said…

Haaland has continued his prolific form into the yellow colours of Dortmund, scoring 12 times in just 11 appearances, meaning his total for the season now stands at an impressive 40 goals from 33 matches, per Transfermarkt.

Lucien Favre’s side clinched the teenage sensation for a poultry €20m (£18.4m) as that was his release clause at RB Salzburg and his worth has sky-rocketed to £72m since his January switch.

Which is why some members of the Spurs faithful cannot believe they’ll be in for him this summer…

The reports were slammed for being “embarrassing” and “ridiculous” whilst one fan claimed they were more likely to sign his dad, Alf-Inge Haaland, who was once on the books of Premier League rivals Manchester City.

It would be a shock to see the Norwegian talisman leave the Bundesliga title-chasers anytime soon, and certainly not to a side that looks more than likely to miss out on Champions League football next season.

Whose Line Is It Anyway: Roy Keane, Graeme Souness or Adrian Durham?

Spurs are a massive seven points adrift of the top four and have no cup competitions left to compete for – Mourinho’s transfer budget is sure to take a massive dent as a result, only putting this one even further in doubt.

Arsenal fans fume at latest Bukayo Saka transfer report

Arsenal fans are in an uproar over the latest transfer news surrounding versatile winger Bukayo Saka this week.

According to the Telegraph, the 18-year-old is on the radar of several Bundesliga teams ahead of the summer as the ongoing situation in Germany means clubs could lose out on money and thus would be limited in the transfer market.

Many reportedly see Saka as someone who could follow in Jadon Sancho’s footsteps following a breakthrough season in north London.

He has risen to first-team stardom under Mikel Arteta this campaign, proving his worth as a natural left-mid but more prominently at left-back in the absence of the injured Kieran Tierney.

In 29 appearances, Saka has scored three goals and laid on nine assists, per Transfermarkt, but his current contract expires in just 15 months time – something his boss is rather keen to extend.

And it would appear that supporters feel the same way as this fresh information has riled them up on Twitter.

Wolverhampton Wanderers: Fans react to footage of Derek Dougan’s goal

After Wolverhampton Wanderers posted dug deep into the archives for another one of their ‘Goal of the Day’ specials, a number of the club’s faithful took it upon themselves to reply and leave their own memories about the moment on Twitter.

Derek Dougan’s headed goal against Manchester United in their 3-1 win at Old Trafford in 1972 (per YouTube) was selected and it was one many of the supporters clearly remember fondly.

Perhaps the club’s official website put it best when they described the former forward as one of the club’s most popular players to have ever pulled on the gold and black colours in their history.

Of course, Dougan proved to be a handful for defences and goalkeepers when playing for Wolves, as he managed to record an impressive 123 goals in 323 appearances and subsequently being labelled as one of the Old Gold’s talismanic strikers (per the club’s official website).

Upon seeing the goal, many of the Wolves faithful were left discussing a lot of different aspects in regards to the footage, with some reserving some special praise for their former star, whilst others left wondering how that ‘under-rated’ team would get on in the modern game.

Here are just some of their reactions…

Man Utd fans react to fresh Jadon Sancho reports

Manchester United fans have been reacting to the latest update involving reported transfer target Jadon Sancho this week.

According to the Evening Standard, Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still wants to sign the English hotshot in the summer despite claims from Ed Woodward that some clubs will not be able to afford mega-money additions.

It has led to many a supporter discussing the news on social media after the information was relayed by popular Twitter account UtdReport.

United’s executive vice-chairman said: “I cannot help feeling that speculation around transfers of individual players for hundreds of millions of pounds this summer seems to ignore the realities that face the sport.”

Yet Solskjaer is determined to lead a squad overhaul beginning with the likes of Sancho, who could cost in excess of €110m (£96m).

Some supporters have been suggesting audacious swap deals whilst others have, of course, taken a swipe at Woodward.
