Glenn Maxwell vs Amit Mishra will be fun. The Australian has smashed 66 runs in 35 balls in all T20s, but in the process, the Indian has picked up his wicket five times. Maxwell has also been susceptible to left-arm spin in the IPL: his average of 22.9 is the second-lowest for anyone who has faced at least 200 balls of this kind of bowling. Someone should pass Krunal the note.
There has been a noticeable shift in Faf du Plessis’ batting in the powerplay this season. His strike rate of 158 from two matches is significantly higher than the 105 he managed all through 2022, when he was also dismissed in this phase of play seven times in 16 innings.Pitch and conditionsThe average first-innings IPL score in Bengaluru since 2018 is 183. In the same period, statistics suggest spinners have had a better time keeping the runs down here than the quicks (economy rate 8.1 vs 9.8). It remains the most sixer-friendly ground in the IPL, averaging 18 per match over the last five seasons.

Under bright skies and on an Oval pitch that seemed to ease out against all expectations, India’s batters set up a potentially thrilling final day, racing to 164 for 3 at more than four an over to keep alive their pursuit of a world-record fourth-innings target. Australia remain favourites, with India needing a further 280 on the final day, but they may have a lot of hard work ahead of them to take the seven remaining wickets, with the second new ball 40 overs away.India may have still felt a little cross with themselves at stumps, though, losing perhaps a wicket more than they would have liked by then, two of them to aggressive shots. Rohit Sharma was lbw to Nathan Lyon, missing a sweep from a stump-to-stump line, and Cheteshwar Pujara toe-ended an attempted ramp over the slips off a Pat Cummins bouncer.Both batters will argue, though, that these are shots they usually play well. They will also argue that the same positivity had helped them stitch a second-wicket stand of 51 in 77 balls. The two wickets, however, fell in the space of five balls, turning 92 for 1 to 93 for 3.It was the perfect opening for Australia to bulldoze through, but Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane were having none of it. They ended the day reprising the same positivity that had gone before, putting on an unbroken 71 for the fourth wicket, with both batters looking in excellent ball-striking rhythm. Conditions, too, didn’t seem to test them, with the pitch showing far less tendency to produce inconsistent bounce than it had done through the first three innings of the match. Scott Boland got one to straighten and kick in the corridor, Shubman Gill pushed at it with hard hands, and Cameron Green dived low to his left to pluck out a superlative gully catch, his second of the match. Gill stood his ground, though, and the decision went up to the third umpire. As is often the case with these low grabs, replays seemed inconclusive, but the decision went in Australia’s favour.Chants of “Cheat! Cheat! Cheat!” continued to follow Green through the rest of the evening, particularly when he bowled. During the first session of the day, Green had had a far different effect on the crowd, keeping them quiet as he added 18 runs in 87 balls to his overnight score of 7. His dismissal was in keeping with the tone of his innings: he attempted to pad away a Ravindra Jadeja delivery from over the wicket only for the ball to hit his pad and roll onto the wicket.By then, Australia had added 44 to their overnight 123 for 4 while losing two wickets in 19 overs – Marnus Labuschagne the other batter dismissed, nicking Umesh Yadav to first slip. India had bowled with discipline while extracting just enough from the surface to keep the batters vigilant; with Australia’s lead just 340, they may have hoped to wrap their innings up before it got to 400.Alex Carey, however, ensured that it swelled well beyond that figure, scoring an opportunistic 66 to go with his 48 in the first innings, and putting on 93 for the seventh wicket with Mitchell Starc. Both batters began cautiously and had their moments of discomfort, particularly against Jadeja finding sharp turn and bounce from the footmarks outside the left-handers’ off stump, but grew increasingly confident as India’s quicks tired.Mohammed Shami, who had bowled frugally and beaten the bat multiple times without any reward in his previous spells, came back when India took the second new ball and dismissed Starc and Pat Cummins when they were looking to slog for quick runs. Australia declared at the stroke of Cummins’ dismissal, setting India a never-before-achieved 444 to win.It may have been a nostalgia-inducing moment among old-timers at the ground. In 1979, a Sunil Gavaskar double-hundred had inspired India to a thrilling draw at The Oval; they finished on 429 for 8 after being set 438 by England. There’s still a chance that Sunday may bring similar levels of excitement.

وفيما يتعلق بأفضل مركز لـ ترينت ألكسندر أرنولد، قال: “يستطيع اللعب في أنظمة ومراكز مختلفة، ضد باتشوكا تلعب بعشرة لاعبين، وكل شيء نسبي، ضد الهلال لم يكن الشوط الأول هو الأفضل، ولكنه يبدأ أساسيًا ويتكيف في عملية العثور على مركزه الأفضل، نحن سعداء به”.

As you can see in the table above, the five players with the most xG for the London giants in the Premier League this season have all underperformed against their expected tallies.

Nicolas Jackson, in particular, has been wasteful in the final third with his return of just nine goals from 12.16 xG, which may be why the club were linked to Alexander Isak earlier this year.

Speaking to The Chelsea Chronicle in February, journalist Graeme Bailey revealed that the Blues do hold an interest in the Newcastle United centre-forward ahead of the summer transfer window.

Bailey said: “Chelsea like him. He’s certainly on their radar. If the opportunity came up, if you don’t win a ticket you can’t buy the raffle, and I think with Isak Chelsea would have a conversation.”

It would take a lot to secure the Sweden international’s signature, though, as The Telegraph reported back in December of last year that the Magpies value him at more than £150m.

Since then, Isak has scored the winning goal in the League Cup final at Wembley against Liverpool to land Newcastle their first major trophy in 70 years, which will have done little to help Chelsea – or anyone else – lower their valuation of the striker.

A move for £150m or more would be a club-record for Chelsea, surpassing the £115m deal they agreed with Brighton & Hove Albion for Moises Caicedo, and it remains to be seen whether or not they would be prepared to go that high to land the former Real Sociedad and Borussia Dortmund marksman.

The Blues are, however, said to be looking at alternative options in the market as a fresh report suggests that they have set their sights on another centre-forward.

The latest on Chelsea's interest in Bundesliga striker

According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea are one of a number of European teams interested in a swoop to sign Eintracht Frankfurt number nine Hugo Ekitike in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The report claims that Manchester United, Newcastle United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, and West Ham United are all keen on a deal to snap up the former Paris Saint-Germain attacker ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

It states that the Premier League teams are all plotting bids to snap him up later this year, and that they would be willing to pay a fee of €60m (£50m) to get a move over the line.

CaughtOffside adds that Frankfurt would prefer to keep hold of the France U21 international until 2026, but they would be willing to listen to reasonable offers for the striker this year amid interest from a host of top clubs in England.

The outlet states that Chelsea view the forward as a ‘budget-friendly’ option, which makes sense when you consider the aforementioned £150m price tag for Isak – £100m more than the Premier League sides are willing to pay for Ekitike.

The Blues must, now, push to beat the likes of Man United, Liverpool, and Arsenal, to the 22-year-old star’s signature this summer because he could be Maresca’s own version of Isak at Stamford Bridge.

Firstly, they share a similar build as Isak stands at 6 foot 4 and Ekitike stands at 6 foot 3, whilst neither of them are bulky, traditional, centre-forwards.

Secondly, FBref lists the Newcastle sensation as the second-most similar player, behind Omar Marmoush, to the French ace based on their statistics in the past 365 days.

As you can see in the chart above, they share a lot of statistical similarities per 90, particularly when it comes to scoring goals from open play and creating chances for their teammates.

This suggests that they are similar in style, as well as sharing a similar physique, and this suggests that Ekitike would be able to fulfill the same tactical remit that would be asked of Isak at Stamford Bridge.

The Frankfurt star, who was once described as “complete” and described as similar to Thierry Henry by talent scout Jacek Kulig, is three years younger than the Newcastle ace, though, and still has some development left to go through to reach his level in the final third.

As you can see in the table above, Isak has outperformed Ekitike at league level this season with six more goals and one more assist in one more start, but that does not seem like a £100m or more gap in quality.

The France U21 international, who scored a hat-trick against England’s U21s earlier this month, has three years to catch up to the Swedish sensation and could come in as Maresca’s own Isak in the making at Stamford Bridge.

He has the technical and physical attributes to become Chelsea’s own version of the Magpies star and that is why the club should push to win the race for his signature when the time comes this summer, because they could save themselves more than £100m in the market if they can agree a £50m deal for the Frankfurt marksman.

ودخل أنطونيو روديجر في مشادة قوية مع لاعب باتشوكا، جوستافو كابرال، في اللحظات الأخيرة من عمر المباراة.

وزعم روديجر أنه تعرض لإساءة عنصرية من كابرال، حيث قال إن الأخير سبه قائلًا: “أسود/زنجي لعين”، في حين نفى لاعب باتشوكا الأمر حيث أكد أنه قال للألماني: “جبان لعين”.

وأوضحت أن فيفا قام بمراجعة جميع صور الملعب، سواء من البث المباشر أو من كاميرات أخرى، ولكن حتى الآن لا يوجد أي أثر يدين كابرال.

وأفادت أن الخطوة التالية ستتمثل في إعادة النظر في تصريحات اللاعبين المعنيين، وسيتحدد ما إذا كان هناك أي اختلاف في رواية الأحداث التي ذُكرت في الجولة الأولى من التحقيقات.

There has now been a promising new update on West Ham’s pursuit of Rigg, with Football Insider reporting they are now in pole position to sign the Sunderland midfielder, despite interest from rivals Tottenham.

Several clubs retain an interest in the 17-year-old, who is said to be destined to be a Premier League player next season, with the Black Cats likely being forced to cash-in if they fail to secure promotion from the Championship.

Everton and Manchester United are also named as potential suitors for the teenager, but the Hammers are leading the race, despite reports from elsewhere revealing Spurs have made a £38m bid.

It will probably be a difficult decision for the Sunderland-born midfielder to leave his hometown club, but if they remain a second tier side next season, it would probably be a wise decision to seek pastures new.

Freelance scout Ben Mattinson has spoken very highly of the starlet, describing him as “phenomenal”, while describing him as a “technically gifted midfielder capable of moments of brilliance”.

Earlier in the campaign, Mattinson also stated the youngster is capable of being a “game-changer”, which has been on display at times this season, with the Englishman bagging four goals in the Championship.

Rigg is showing signs he is ready to take the next step in his career by moving to the Premier League, so it is fantastic news that West Ham are well-positioned to win the race for his signature.

The ECB announced this week that Sanjay Patel, the Hundred’s managing director, would step down from his role at the end of this summer’s edition. In the announcement, Gould also predicted a “very long and successful future for the Hundred”.A report by Fanos Hira, the Worcestershire chair, earlier this year suggested that the Hundred had made a £9 million loss to date, figures which the ECB disputes. Thompson said: “It’s a historical report looking at the income and cost base of the ECB. And it [the Hundred] will help us across the game.”It depends how you attribute those costs,” he added. “Especially the £1.3m that each county receives a year [which is directly linked to the Hundred]. The game has invested a significant amount of money into the Hundred to ensure that it finds a new audience, which it has done.
