The ground has been undergoing extensive building work in recent seasons which is hoped to be completed by next year’s Test. With the WPL moving to a new window in January, Cricket Australia has been forced to adjust when they play their major women’s series which means it now falls outside of the school holiday period although the schedule has been worked to have as many games as possible around weekends.T20Is will again be hosted at major venues with the SCG staging the first game (February 15), Canberra the second (February 19) and Adelaide Oval the third (February 21). The third ODI at Junction Oval in Melbourne on March 1 is planned to be the first day-night international at the venue which is due to have lights installed over the winter although there is currently opposition from local residents to plans. When the India tour starts it will have been more than a year since Australia played at home following this season’s Ashes. The ODI World Cup, which will be staged in India from late September, means there are no early-season internationals. 'They don't want to change coach!' – Ruben Amorim insists he has support of Man Utd players but reveals what he really wants from team

Ruben Amorim said he could feel that his Manchester United players do not want him to get sacked after they beat Sunderland 2-0 to ease the pressure on the coach. Goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko gave United a third win of the season and soothed the pain of last week's defeat at Brentford, which led to high profile figures such as Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney fiercely criticising Amorim.

Getty Images SportMount backs Amorim after win

Amorim went into the match with a dismal record of 34 points from 33 matches but the victory over Sunderland took his side up to eighth in the Premier League table and level with Manchester City, albeit having played one game more than their local rivals.

Mount put United in front in the eighth minute at Old Trafford and after the game he gave his boss a show of support when he told reporters: "We're 100% behind the gaffer. We've had some results that hurt us – the team, the staff and the fans – but that was important today."

The midfielder hopes the victory can be the start of a strong run of results. He added: "It needs to be – we thought after Chelsea it would be the start of something and then we go to Brentford and have a disappointing result. It starts today and we'll be working hard over the break. We want to get back-to-back wins, then three in a row and push on for the top four."

AdvertisementAFPAmorim felt players backing on the pitch

Amorim said that the players' resilient performance proved that they supported him and he was pleased with how the team stuck together even when their intensity levels dropped in the second half. "We didn’t play well during all the game but we had our moments but if you look at our performance, it was a team performance," he said. "There was focus, defending well, we were trying to kill the game in the second half. So I'm pleased with that and now we move forward to the next one."

The coach was asked about Mount's backing and he said he knows that the players do not want to keep changing coaches. Amorim is the sixth permanent coach United have employed since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. The United boss also explained what he wants to see from his players every week.
"I saw today and I know they want to do the best and I know they don’t want to change the coach all the time," he said. "But like I said during this week, to be with the manager is: 'I will kill myself to go in every transition'. We need to show with actions and sometimes when we look at our team I know for sure that when we see the games in the end they know that sometimes we can do better. So I feel that during the week but we need to show that on the pitch, not just at home but also away."

Getty Images SportLammens 'looked confident' in impressive United debut

Amorim praised debutant goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who made his first appearance since switching to the Red Devils from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day. "He looks confident in the first game but the important thing is the team-mates helped Senne to have a good game because everyone is focused, there were not a lot of mistakes against a team that was really comfortable playing football, so we did well as a group effort."

He also explained why he had waited so long before giving the Belgian his first match while Altay Bayindir struggled. "When Senne arrived here, first of all Altay was playing and then he arrives and you can feel that he needs to adapt, new country, new training," he said.
"The pressure you guys put on the goalkeeper is massive, so it was a little preparation for him to be ready to start his first game. But it is just one game and he needs to work, he needs to be prepared that in our club things are really hard, but he did well and again he was comfortable during the game. That's a really good sign."

Amorim was also impressed with his £74m striker Benjamin Sesko, who scored his first goal at Old Trafford and for the second game running after also finding the net against Brentford.

"He is here to score the goals, to give us a different type of profile inside the box, to use more crosses, he is going to improve the connection with this teammates," Amorim said of the Slovenian. "How many times did Senne kick the ball and he was there with the first touch? That is more important, especially in this league that we are thinking when there is a throw-in we have an extra guy who is big at the first post.

"All the characteristics of Ben, not just the goals, can help us to win games. We are happy with him, he puts a lot of pressure on himself that is not a bad thing but he has potential to do so much more."

Revealed: The eye-watering fee the Glazers want for Man Utd amid talk of fresh Saudi takeover and 'advanced deal'

The Glazer family have finally hinted they’d consider selling Manchester United but only for a reported mind-blowing £5.2 billion. That’s more than double the club’s current £2 billion market value, and the clearest signal yet that the Florida-based owners will only budge if a global powerhouse comes knocking on their door with a record-breaking cheque.

The price of power: Glazers dig in their heels

The Glazers, who infamously bought United for £790 million back in 2005, have faced years of fury from fans demanding they sell. Yet even amid protests and dwindling faith, the family continues to cling tightly to their shares. They believe United’s value will skyrocket once the club’s mega-stadium project kicks off, and they want any buyer to pay upfront for that potential. Behind closed doors, insiders say United’s owners have already rejected three discreet approaches, including one from a Gulf-based fund – but the door remains “slightly ajar” for the right bidder, as reported by

AdvertisementGetty Images SportSaudi kingpin Turki Al-Sheikh eyes shock takeover

Turki Al-Sheikh, a billionaire entertainment and sports magnate with deep ties across boxing, snooker, UFC and football, is reportedly leading the charge for the takeover. Known for his grand gestures and aggressive investments, Turki has hinted that talks with United are at an “advanced stage”, sparking a frenzy online. However, club insiders insist no official deal is in place, while the Glazers remain tight-lipped. For Turki, the allure of United is obvious: global reach, massive fanbase, and prestige unmatched in world football. But convincing the Glazers to part ways with their 48.9% controlling stake won’t be easy, or cheap. In a cryptic post on social media, he said: “The best news I heard today is that Manchester United is now in an advanced stage of completing a deal to sell to a new investor – I hope he’s better than the previous owners.”

Fans have seen this movie before. In 2024, Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim Al-Thani made a full takeover bid, reportedly worth over £5 billion, before storming out after months of failed negotiations. Instead, the Glazers chose to sell 27.7% of United to British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, handing him control over football operations through his INEOS empire. Ratcliffe, who paid £1.25 billion, has since made several pointed comments about the failed Qatari bid. “Still nobody’s ever seen him (Sheikh Jassim), actually," the INEOS chief said. "The Glazers never met him…he never…I’m not sure he exists!”

United’s money crisis, and Saudi’s golden carrot

United may boast huge revenues, but behind the scenes, the books are strained. Missing out on European qualification this season has left a £100 million black hole in the club’s finances. The humiliating Carabao Cup exit to League Two Grimsby only added to the misery, with gaps now appearing in United’s midweek calendar. Club bosses are scrambling to plug that financial hole with money-spinning friendlies abroad, and Saudi Arabia is once again the land of opportunity. The Red Devils are already weighing a lucrative trip to the Middle East, where they could pocket £5 million per match in exhibition fees. Reports suggest the club could feature in the Riyadh Season Cup, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal, in a mini-tournament worth £15 million total. United are also considering an All-Star friendly featuring Saudi Arabia’s top players, a mirror of the 2023 Paris Saint-Germain showcase that saw Messi, Neymar, and Mbappé share a pitch. That game alone could earn United another £5 million.

AFPGlazers want cash, not commitment

While the Glazers publicly claim to be deeply involved in the club’s future, their recent financial manoeuvres suggest otherwise. United’s record £670 million revenue hasn’t stopped sweeping staff redundancies, while the board continues to search desperately for new investors. One potential solution on the table: the Glazers could sell part of their stake, likely to a Saudi consortium, in exchange for a cash injection to bankroll the stadium project. But at £5.2 billion, the price tag borders on fantasy. Still, if Turki Al-Sheikh, or anyone else, is bold enough to meet it, the Glazers could finally walk away richer than ever. Until then, United fans will have to watch as their club teeters between ambition and greed, caught in the hands of owners who just can’t seem to let go.

'As it is we are seeing such big sixes' – Mohit Sharma backs bat checks

Rayudu: Bat checks done on the field can affect batters’ focus

The two matches in IPL 2025 on Sunday, saw the on-field umpires checking the dimensions of the bats of batters who came in to bat. It is a practice usually done in the dressing room, but in both the matches, it played out on the field before the batters took guard. Umpires Nitin Menon and Saidharshan Kumar measured bats of Shimron Hetmyer, Phil Salt, Riyan Parag and Nitish Rana among others in Jaipur, while Chris Gaffaney and Vinod Seshan did the same to Hardik Pandya’s bat in Delhi. All the bats went through the gauge through which they must pass, and were deemed acceptable. Rana said that the batters did not have an issue with it if the umpires want to “check it for their satisfaction.”Related

“There is shortage of time in T20s, and if the umpires have the time to check the bat, I guess it is their right to do so – even my bat was checked,” he said on the eve of RR’s game against Delhi Capitals in Delhi. “In that game, bats of 60-70% batsmen was checked. It is fair enough, we don’t have a say in that, it is not a controllable. The bats are made in the company that sponsors us, we don’t have an issue with that. But if umpires want to check it for their satisfaction, we don’t have a problem.”DC’s fast bowler Mohit Sharma had a bit of laugh when asked about it and said: “That’s really good, please check those bats. As it is we have been seeing such big sixes. If a bat or two are caught oversized then ban them also.”

Spurs flop was prematurely sold by Conte, now he's outperforming Kudus

Tottenham Hotspur have splashed the cash over the last couple of years to try and catapult themselves to a Premier League title fight – but so far, to no avail.

The Lilywhites’ 15th-placed Premier League finish last campaign showcases the size of the task Thomas Frank has on his hands, but there’s no doubt he will be backed by the hierarchy in due course.

Just last summer, the board splashed a club-record fee of £65m to land Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth, with the Englishman seen as a replacement for Harry Kane.

Mammoth funds have also been spent on the likes of Xavi Simons and Brennan Johnson, subsequently adding further depth and quality to the club’s attacking department.

However, despite the addition of the former during the recent window, he was also joined by another talent late on in the summer – in a move that will offer further competition for places.

How Frank can get the best out of Kudus

Despite the previous additions made during the summer transfer window, Mohammed Kudus was the most expensive addition made by the hierarchy, costing a fee in the region of £55m.

The former West Ham United star undoubtedly ruffled the feathers of the Hammers faithful with his move across the capital to link up with Frank’s side during the off-season.

The 25-year-old started the clash against Graham Potter’s side last weekend, failing to get on the scoresheet, but proving that he made the right decision after the 3-0 triumph.

His debut against Burnley saw him bag two assists for Richarlison, but he’s failed to register a single goal contribution since the opening day – which could leave the Dane scratching his head for ways to recapture his best form.

Kudus is at his best when driving at the opposition – as seen by his assists against Scott Parker’s men – with Frank needing to give the attacker licence to drive and try and beat the opposition on a consistent basis.

However, the hierarchy may have been better off keeping hold of another talent, given his recent form elsewhere after his transfer away from the capital a couple of years ago.

The Spurs star who’s now outperforming Simons

Back in November 2021, Spurs appointed Antonio Conte as the successor to Nuno Espírito Santo, but the Italian’s time in charge was certainly one to forget for all involved with the club.

Whilst he achieved a 53% win rate in charge of the Lilywhites, his off-the-field antics caught the eye most – often leading to various moments of controversy.

From touchline clashes with Thomas Tuchel, to rants in press conferences, his spell was littered with questionable moments which led to his demise in North London.

His dealings in the transfer market also led to questions being asked, with the sale of Steven Bergwijn in the summer of 2022 one that could come back to bite the club.

The Dutchman racked up 83 appearances for the club, scoring eight times in the process – with his best effort arguably coming in his first outing in the capital.

He scored a superb effort against Manchester City on home soil, securing a 2-0 win over Pep Guardiola’s men back in the 2020/21 campaign before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite making 32 appearances in his final campaign, he would be sold back to Ajax in his homeland – before joining Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad in the summer of 2024.

Bergwijn, who’s been labelled “sensational” by one analyst, has scored 18 goals since the start of last season – a tally higher than that of Kudus, who’s only managed five in the same time period.

The Dutchman has also notched nine assists in that time, also outperforming the Ghanaian, who’s only managed six – further highlighting his superb levels of performance since leaving North London.

His subsequent tallies showcase that he still possesses a whole heap of quality that could’ve been of use to Frank if the previous management teams had kept hold of the attacker.

However, he will forever remain a case of what could have been, with Frank needing to put trust into Kudus to continue his fine start to life under his guidance.

Tottenham put international break curse behind them after Leeds win

Before their latest victory at Leeds United, thanks largely to a Man of the Match display from in-form summer signing Mohammed Kudus, Spurs had suffered defeat in seven of their last seven matches prior to an international break.

A run of two consecutive Premier League draws in the build up to Leeds, not to mention a disappointing share of the spoils away to Norwegian minnows Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League, perhaps told a sign that Frank’s side could’ve been on to extend that bizarre record.

However, a gritty, resilient display on a rainy Saturday afternoon in Yorkshire saw Frank’s side come away with all three points, despite Leeds battling to the very bitter end and ferociously knocking on Spurs’ door.

Tottenham not only put that international break voodoo behind them, but they also became the first side to beat Leeds at Elland Road for over a year in the league.

It took a couple of crucial saves from Guglielmo Vicario to thwart Leeds’ attempts to get on the scoresheet for a second time, and Frank can also give a special nod to Mathys Tel, who opened the scoring after being given the starting nod ahead of Richarlison.

Dominic Solanke’s niggling ankle problem, which required minor surgery, means that Richarlison has started up top in almost every game for Spurs so far, but there are doubts that the hot and cold Brazil international can be relied upon.

Spurs are hopeful Solanke could return just after the October international break, but fitness issues have been a real issue for the Englishman since his move from Bournemouth last year.

As such, the Lilywhites are being linked with a new striker, and it is believed that former Brentford star Ivan Toney is on their radar.

Frank worked with Toney during his peak years at the Gtech Community Stadium, with the 29-year-old bagging 20 Premier League goals in the 2022/2023 season.

Since moving to Al-Ahli in 2024, Toney has scored for fun, racking up 30 strikes in 44 appearances over his debut campaign and eight goals from 10 run outs already this season.

Thomas Frank contacts Ivan Toney over joining Tottenham in January

According to a report from Indy News, Spurs could now offer the £426,000-per-week talisman a chance to make a return to his homeland.

Indeed, it is believed that Frank has personally contacted Toney over joining Tottenham on loan in January, with Chelsea named as another suitor as both sides ponder bringing in a new centre-forward mid-season.

It is unclear whether Al-Ahli would sanction a temporary move away for the number nine who’s been their arguable star player since joining, but Frank has previously lavished praise on Toney as a “remarkable” striker, so it is clear why he’d be keen to reunite with him in North London.

Haider Ali's dew-focused prep spins UAE to famous series win

“We play night games in domestic cricket. It got me used to such conditions,” says Haider after his impressive spell of 3 for 7 in series-decider

Mohammad Isam22-May-2025Haider Ali turned to an old-school method to prepare for Sharjah’s infamous dew: dipping the cricket ball in a bucket of water and practising with it. The tactic worked like a charm on Wednesday night as the left-arm spinner starred with figures of 3 for 7, helping UAE seal a historic 2-1 T20I series victory against Bangladesh.Dew, a well-known factor in night games in the UAE, hadn’t shown up in the first two T20Is. But it arrived early in the third and deciding match. Unlike many bowlers on both sides who struggled for grip and control, Haider was ready. He said that the experience of having played in Sharjah under lights helped him.”There was dew from the first over,” Haider said after the game. “It usually sets in a little later in the game. But we were prepared for it. We have played in Sharjah a lot. I practice a lot with the wet ball. You have to get used to bowling with the wet ball if you want to perform here. You have to dunk the ball in a bucket of water and then bowl with it. We play night games in domestic cricket. It got me used to such conditions.”Related

Haider and Sharafu lead UAE to historic series win against Bangladesh

Haider's miserly spell and a record chase in UAE's series win

Making his T20I debut in this series, Haider had gone wicketless in the first two matches. But in the decider, he delivered right from the start. He dismissed batters Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy within his first three balls, then removed Mahedi Hasan in his next over, reducing Bangladesh to 49 for 4.His spell – tight, aggressive, and accurate – set the tone for UAE’s dominance with the ball. Haider credited his mindset shift for the turnaround.”The series was level at one-all. I saw in the previous games that if I was being a little defensive with the ball, runs were leaking from the other end,” he said. “After talking to the coaching staff, I decided that I will be aggressive in my bowling in this game. There was a lot of dew around, so the pitch had softened, which actually helped me. I could put together a good spell. The team needed my contribution.”We decided to stick to the plan we made before the game. The plan was obviously to win the game at any cost. We decided that I will bowl aggressively, like I do in the ILT20 or domestic cricket. I wank to thank all those people who have supported me in the last 12 months, especially my domestic teams who have helped me practice on these wickets.”.Haider was especially proud of dismissing Litton, whom he called “a big wicket.””He has performed all over the world,” Haider said. “He was also my debut wicket. He can build partnerships and take the game away from you. Waseem bhai and I decided to attack him. We thought, ‘we shouldn’t be bowling defensive lines to him. If we can get him out early, we can deprive them of an early big partnership’.”Bangladesh recovered from 84 for 8 to post a competitive 162 for 9, but UAE chased it down, thanks to an unbeaten 68 from No. 3 Alishan Sharafu. That apart, the 2-1 series win is a huge boost for UAE, as they head into a crucial year, having qualified for the Asia Cup.”The UAE cricket board and our management supported the players a lot,” Haider said. “I would like to thank them for the series victory. Bangladesh is a Test-playing nation, but UAE played really well in this series. The victory will boost the players, and it will boost our confidence in tournaments like the Asia Cup.”

Here is a detailed look at Newcastle's 10 biggest departures… 10 Yohan Cabaye £20m to PSG, 2014

Central midfielder Yohan Cabaye spent two and a half years at St James’ Park after signing for Newcastle from Lille in 2011.

The Frenchman took the No 4 shirt and was a regular in black and white, scoring 18 goals before being sold to Paris Saint-Germain for £20m in January 2014.

9 Aleksandar Mitrovic £22m to Fulham, 2018

Newcastle gave Aleksandar Mitrovic his first taste of English football in 2015 after signing him from Anderlecht. The Serbian couldn’t help keep the club in the top flight during his first season, but did play his part in the title-winning squad of 2016/17.

In 2018, Mitrovic was loaned to Fulham before making his move permanent and won promotion to the Premier League with the Cottagers on three separate occasions after his £22m transfer.

8 Allan Saint-Maximin £23m to Al-Ahli, 2023

Tricky winger Allan Saint-Maximin was a fan favourite during his four-year stint at St James’ Park, getting supporters off their feet with his ability on the ball.

Newcastle also made a profit on the Frenchman when selling him to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli for £23m in 2023, a transfer which helped balance the Magpies’ books.

7 Georginio Wijnaldum £25m to Liverpool, 2016

Midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum only spent one season with Newcastle in 2015/16 after joining from PSV.

The Dutchman’s displays were enough for Liverpool to come calling under Jurgen Klopp, with Wijnaldum going on to win the Premier League and Champions League wearing the No 5 shirt for the Reds following his £25m transfer after Newcastle had been relegated.

6 Moussa Sissoko £30m to Tottenham, 2016

Powerful central midfielder Moussa Sissoko had his first taste of English football with Newcastle when he joined from Toulouse in 2013, and will go down as an extremely shrewd signing.

Sissoko only cost the Magpies £1.5m and went on to make more than 130 appearances in black and white before being sold to Spurs for a huge £28.5m profit.

5 Ayoze Perez £30m to Leicester City, 2019

Like Sissoko, Ayoze Perez also only cost Newcastle £1.5m and was sold for £30m. The forward joined from Tenerife in 2014 and went on to score 48 times in 195 appearances.

Leicester City splashed the cash on the attacker in 2019, with Perez going on to win the FA Cup with the Foxes.

4 Yankuba Minteh £30m to Brighton, 2024

The most recent player to leave for an initial £30m was winger Yankuba Minteh, who signed for Brighton in 2024.

Minteh signed for Newcastle from Danish club Odense in June 2023 and spent the next year on loan with Feyenoord. He never made a first-team appearance at St James’ Park, but still brought in an eye-catching fee.

3 Elliot Anderson £35m to Nottingham Forest, 2024

Elliot Anderson’s big-money move to Nottingham Forest may read £35m in the transfer books, but with goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos heading to St James’ Park from the City Ground for £20m, the true value of the deal is up for debate.

It was a transfer that helped the Magpies and the Reds when it came to the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Rules, with Anderson a homegrown academy product and therefore representing pure profit.

2 Andy Carroll £35m to Liverpool, 2011

Also bringing in an official £35m transfer fee – without the complications – was Andy Carroll’s move from Newcastle to Liverpool.

The boyhood Magpies fan impressed after coming through the club’s academy and sealed a deadline-day move to Anfield in January 2011. Carroll would only spend 18 months with Liverpool, moving on loan to West Ham in the summer of 2012, where he stayed for a number of years before briefly returning to Tyneside on a free in 2019.

1 Alexander Isak £125m to Liverpool, 2025

14 years on from Carroll’s deadline day move to Anfield, Alexander Isak also swapped St James’ Park for the Reds in a British record £125m deal.

Isak went on strike at Newcastle for weeks and eventually got what he wanted with a move to Liverpool, with his transfer going through on the final day of the summer window. The Magpies did bring two forwards in with the Isak money in Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa.

Real Madrid player ratings vs Getafe: Insatiable Kylian Mbappe fires Los Blancos to unconvincing victory as mischievous super-sub Vinicius Junior sparks opposition implosion

Kylian Mbappe found the back of the net again and super-sub Vinicius Junior baited two red cards as Real Madrid beat Getafe 1-0 on Sunday night. Los Blancos were dragged into a rather ugly contest, but the Frenchman's second-half goal saw them get the job done and go two points clear of arch-rivals Barcelona at the La Liga summit ahead of next week's Clasico.

Madrid struggled to create an opening in the first half. Mbappe came close, only to see a weak-footed shot parried away by the excellent David Soria in the Getafe net. David Alaba, too, was denied by the Spaniard, who saved an awkwardly spinning free kick.

Mbappe had a good chance after 65 minutes, running onto a Jude Bellingham through ball before firing into the side netting.

What followed was a remarkably odd sequence. Right back Allan Nyom was subbed on to protect Kiko, who was on a red and facing the dangerous Vinicius Jr. Nyom was sent off after 50 seconds for elbowing the Brazilian. In the ensuing chaos, Getafe failed to reorganize their defensive setup, and Mbappe ran through to make it 1-0.

Vinicius baited a second red soon after, drawing a silly booking from Alex Sancris, who had already been cautioned and left Getafe with just nine men for the final stages of the game. And with a two-man advantage, Madrid rather cruised. Not an easy win, but a valuable one ahead of El Clasico.

GOAL rates Real Madrid's players from Estadio Coliseum…

GettyGoalkeeper & Defence

Thibaut Courtois (8/10):

Made a miraculous save in second half stoppage time to secure the win. Immense.

Federico Valverde (7/10):

A bit mixed after facing heavy criticism of late. Covered ground, played some nice passes, but looked a little vulnerable defensively.

Eder Militao (6/10):

Erratic at times, and could have done with holding down the back line when Alaba was benched.

David Alaba (7/10):

A good contest to hand the injury-plagued defender a start, especially given that Madrid would have little defending to do. Unlucky not to score a free kick. 45 tidy minutes.

Alvaro Carreras (7/10):

Sat in, held his position, and ensured that the left side was tidy enough.

Aurelien Tchouameni (7/10):

Sat at the base of midfield. Won the ball, and kept it moving.

Eduardo Camavinga (7/10):

Ensured Getafe had pretty much nothing through the middle. Did his job – even if it wasn't a glamorous one.

Jude Bellingham (7/10):

A composed performance. Made things happen, played some clever passes.

GettyAttack

Franco Mastantuono (5/10):

Clever in tight areas and combined effectively with Bellingham, but didn't leave a lasting mark. Rather outdone by the physicality of it all.

Kylian Mbappe (8/10):

Had one saved that he would usually bury, and then fired wide. Made up for it by smashing in the winner to bring up 50 goals in 2025. First Madrid player to score 10 or more goals after his first nine games of a season since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2014-15.

Rodrygo (5/10):

Handed a rare start in his preferred position. Didn't do much to show that he deserved more of them. Moved to the right soon after.

GettySubs & Manager

Raul Asencio (6/10):

An assured second half, aside from one defensive lapse.

Vinicius Jr (8/10):

Made things happen. Got kicked a lot. Baited two reds.

Arda Guler (7/10):

Assisted Mbappe for the 5th time this year alone.

Gonzalo Garcia (N/A):

No time to make an impact.

Brahim Diaz (N/A):

No time to make an impact.

Xabi Alonso (7/10):

Shuffled his pack, benched Vinicius and gave Rodrygo a rare start on the left. Got a disciplined showing out of his side, and will take the win – even if it was an ugly one.
