Dean Windass unsure if Josh Windass will stay at SWFC - Exclusive

Dean Windass has revealed that his son Josh wants to stay at Sheffield Wednesday but told Football FanCast that he couldn’t confirm whether he’ll still be at the club next season.

The 27-year-old is about to enter the final 12 months of his Hillsborough contract, and there’s been major doubt over his Wednesday future following their relegation to League One.

Windass has played in the Championship in each of the previous three seasons since returning to England from Rangers in 2018, and was a rare bright spot in an otherwise miserable season for the Owls in 2020-2021.

He was the club’s top league goalscorer with nine, and almost managed the most assists (6) along with Barry Bannan, which meant be contributed to more than 35 percent of Wednesday’s league goals.

Windass was asked about Josh’s future, and exclusively told Football FanCast that whilst there’s been Championship interest, his son’s situation remains the same:

“There’s been a lot of rumours – Fulham, Stoke and West Brom.

“I heard that the players hadn’t been paid, so I don’t know what’s going on.

“But Darren Moore has got a big job next season, even if Josh does stay they will be favourites to go up. I know Josh wants to stay there, but money will determine, I think he’s around the £2m mark people are talking, but I don’t know [whether he will still be there].”

Surrey extend lead as Kent falter

Surrey consolidated their lead in the Championship with a comprehensive three-day win over Leicestershire at Grace Road

Stephen Lamb16-Aug-2002Surrey consolidated their lead in the Championship with a comprehensive three-day win over Leicestershire at Grace Road. Forced to follow on after being bowled out for 290 this morning, Leicestershire fared no better in their second innings, although Darren Maddy once again shone like a beacon in the gloom. He made 94, adding 156 for the second wicket with Iain Sutcliffe, but there was precious little else forthcoming from the hosts. Alex Tudor took four wickets and Mushtaq Ahmed three as Surrey were left just 40 to win. Although Devon Malcolm managed a brace of scalps, Ali Brown and Mark Ramprakash saw Surrey home by seven wickets.Surrey’s position is further enhanced by the parlous state of second-placed Kent, who face certain defeat at Edgbaston. Ashley Giles was Warwickshire’s hero, finishing with five for 74 as Kent were forced to follow on 313 runs behind. Giles then took six more as Kent ended the day on 304 for nine, still nine runs behind. But for a stubborn ninth-wicket partnership of 108 between Mark Ealham (83) and David Masters (60*) the game would already be over.At Old Trafford, Lancashire were set 299 to win the Roses Match after a gallant fightback by the beleaguered visitors. Anthony McGrath (86) and Gary Fellows (109) rescued Yorkshire from the precipice of 82 for five, seeing them to a much more respectable 305. The hosts closed on 36 for two; tomorrow could be an intriguing day.Hampshire shouldn’t take long to polish off Somerset at The Rose Bowl, after a lacklustre second innings by the visitors left them needing just 233 for victory. Chris Tremlett (three for 42) and Shaun Udal (three for 74) were the bowling beneficiaries as Somerset subsided for 190. At stumps Neil Johnson (57) had set Hampshire on their way; they need another 96 with eight wickets standing. In Division Two, Australian leg-spinner Stuart MacGill added another six wickets to the eight he claimed yesterday to end Middlesex’s unbeaten record with a 73-run defeat. MacGill finished with season-best match figures of 14 for 165. Middlesex skipper Andrew Strauss was dismissed for 110 this morning, and MacGill then claimed a career-best eight for 111 as Middlesex slipped from 180 for three to 259 all out.Worcestershire moved into second place after cruising to a nine-wicket win over Derbyshire. Steve Selwood, 99 not out overnight, was caught behind off Kabir Ali without addition. Kevin Dean ended unbeaten on 54 as the hosts were all out for 243, leaving Worcestershire needing just 114 to win. Vikram Solanki hustled them to the target with 81 off only 56 balls (four sixes, 12 fours). An unbeaten double century from Mike Hussey has put Northants in front of Gloucestershire on the second day at Bristol. David Sales (70), Tony Penberthy (61) and Graeme Swann (58) helped Hussey take the visitors to 471 at stumps – a lead of 49.Michael Kasprowicz (six for 47) and Darren Thomas (four for 23) played havoc with the Durham batting on day one at Chester-le-Street. Only Andrew Pratt and Michael Gough reached double figures as the hosts crumbled to 124 all out. Not that Glamorgan’s reply was exactly plain sailing – Andrew Davies took four for 44 as the visitors closed on 196 for eight.

Lynn McConnell12-Sep-2002Several newcomers are on the fringe of Northern Districts selection this summer as the first squad from which a team to attend a pre-season camp at the New Zealand High Performance Centre at Lincoln University has been announced.Newcomers to the ND scene, Nick Horsley, (returning to ND from Auckland), David Kelly, (formerly Central Districts, now playing in Counties Manukau), and Gareth West, (formerly CD, now based at the Bracewell Cricket Academy at Te Puna) have been included.Their chance comes as the result of the unavailability of regular players from last season. Rangers urged to sign Abdul Abdulmalik

Former Glasgow Rangers manager Alex McLeish has urged the Gers to sign Millwall youngster Abdul Abdulmalik this summer.

The Lowdown: Gers eye Abdulmalik

The Gers have been linked with a move for the 18-year-old (Daily Mail), who is yet to make his professional debut (Transfermarkt).

They are not the only club interested in his services, though, with Premier League side Arsenal also said to be in pursuit (Daily Mail).

The Latest: McLeish urges Gers to sign Abdulmalik

Speaking to Ibrox News, McLeish – who won a plethora of trophies during his time in charge of the club – has urged the Gers to sign the teenager. He said:

“The boys that have grown up in your academy, you don’t see too many of them.

“The network of scouts, they must know there are special youngsters out there, and that’s a possibility with this Millwall kid.

“It could be a great coup, we have seen over the past few years some young players moving and moving for big money.”

The Verdict: Could be a coup

While Abdulmalik is yet to make his senior bow, he has impressed at youth level. In the 2019/20 FA Youth Cup, he scored four times in four matches, and Millwall manager Gary Rowett has publicly stated that he wants the youngster to stay at the club, believing that he has a “good future” (londonnewsonline.co.uk).

Despite a lack of Champions League football in recent years, Arsenal are one of English football’s biggest clubs and they should be a top proposition for any youngster given the trust which has been placed in some of their brightest young talents like Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe. It would come as a particularly huge coup for the Gers if they could beat the Gunners to his signature.

In other news, Rangers reject several bids for this controversial ace.

Love reaches double ton against England

BRISBANE, Nov 3 AAP – Martin Love posted his fifth career double-century before Queensland’s marathon innings ended against England in the three-day tour match at Allan Border Field.

AAP03-Nov-2002BRISBANE, Nov 3 AAP – Martin Love posted his fifth career double-century before Queensland’s marathon innings ended against England in the three-day tour match at Allan Border Field.Love made 250 in Queensland’s total of 582, leaving England with 20 overs to face before stumps on the second day.Bulls captain Jimmy Maher overlooked several opportunities to declare to keep England in the field for 158 overs as the tourists prepared for Thursday’s first Test against Australia at the Gabba. It was a flat track, and the ground is relatively small, but there was still plenty for England to worry about leading into the Ashes series. The tourists only had themselves to blame for the long stint because Love was dropped four times in today’s first session while Lee Carseldine (51) was also dropped before lunch when he had made 29.Love was eventually trapped LBW by Matthew Hoggard, surviving for 542 minutes and facing 414 deliveries. The 28-year-old wasn’t the only batsman joining the fun as Ashley Noffke (30) and Nathan Hauritz (31) shared half-century stands with Love.Noffke hit two sixes and was caught by a spectator, who put down his pie to take a well-judged catch on the eastern bank. The English bowlers tallied plenty of overs, including Andrew Caddick (2-89 from 31 overs), Hoggard (1-112 from 29), Simon Jones (1-96 from 26) and Ashley Giles (3-124 from 40).

Bielsa should unleash Leeds’ Niall Huggins

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa must unleash Niall Huggins in the Premier League next season after a major update from Graham Smyth.

What’s the story?

Niall Huggins made his first team debut for the Whites when he came on as a second-half substitute in the 4-2 defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League last season, while he has been a consistent performer for the under-23s.

The 20-year-old played 17 times in Premier League 2 Division 2, scoring twice and assisting once, helping the Whites’ youngsters clinch the title and promotion.

Now, The Yorkshire Evening Post’s Smyth has revealed that Huggins does not want to leave Bielsa’s side on loan for next season, and wants to stay at Elland Road to try and fight for a first-team place.

He said: “A number of the 23s, inspired by what Pascal Struijk did quite unexpectedly last season in seizing a first team opportunity and accruing a huge number of Premier League minutes, have set their hearts on staying put to try and do the same. Niall Huggins is among those preferring to stay put than head out on loan.”

He could save millions for Leeds

After a particularly impressive display earlier in the season for the under-23s, Leeds Live’s Joe Donnuhue raved about about the starlet, even suggesting that he could be set for some first team football sooner rather than later.

He wrote: “In the second half, Huggins tucked back in to left-back as Leif Davis was withdrawn at the break. His effort levels were a class above, as he is almost every week. If he continues in this vein, he will not be far off more regular first-team squad involvement.”

England international Kalvin Phillips – who is currently at EURO 2020 –  is also a big fan of the 20-year-old, saying just last summer: “We’ve got a few younger lads called Niall Huggins and Alfie McCalmont. They’re really good young players as well. They’ll be in the team in the next year or so, definitely.”

Dubbed as someone with “pace to burn”, the 5 foot 8 flier clearly knows what it will take to make his mark in the Premier League with Leeds under Bielsa, and he just needs an opportunity to impress.

Given the transfer links to left-backs like Romain Perraud and Javi Galan in recent weeks and months, perhaps Leeds could save millions this summer in the market by actually unleashing one of their own in Huggins next season.

Meanwhile, Leeds United are eyeing this Championship starlet…

Roberts claims Morelos is worth more than £10 million - Exclusive

Last summer saw Alfredo Morelos linked away and widely expected to leave Rangers, but he will be glad that he never left Ibrox after he helped the club win the Scottish Premiershup title and rack up over 100 points.

However, there could be another transfer saga this summer although Graham Roberts knows it will take more than £10 million for anyone to sign him.

Morelos is reportedly a target for Portuguese giants Porto this summer but it’s unlikely that Steven Gerrard would be willing to part ways with the striker unless a huge offer was put on the table which allowed him to strengthen in several different positions.

The offer that Porto are putting on the table at the moment reportedly stands at £10 million, something that is likely to be laughed at in Glasgow considering ‘El Buffalo’ has been a key man during his time with Rangers, netting 94 goals in 182 appearances.

Gerrard will be looking to add players to his squad, not lose them this summer but if he was to be tempted to sanction the sale of, Morelos, it would cost significantly more than £10 million, that’s according to Roberts who spoke exclusively to Transfer Tavern:

“I don’t think he’s definitely staying but they won’t get him for £10 million.

“I think they’d have to go near the £25-30 million mark and that might get him, but not £10 million. He scores goals, so Rangers are not going to give away their main asset on the cheap and I don’t think Porto have £30 million.”

Morelos was signed from HJH Helsinki back in 2017 for just £1.08 million and he has proved to be a stellar signing and he may see no reason to leave Ibrox this summer as they can now offer him Champions League football if they can navigate their way through the qualifiers as well as being very much competitive domestically.

Tottenham Hotspur: Heung-min Son makes decision on Spurs future

Tottenham Hotspur winger Heung-min Son is set to remain with the club ahead of the 2021/22 season, after telling Nuno Espirito Santo that he’s looking forward to next term, according to Football Insider.

The lowdown: Son linked with Tottenham Hotspur departure

Son has caught the eye with a number of strong performances for Tottenham Hotspur over the years, with the winger scoring 107 goals in 280 appearances for the club so far.

It appears as though those impressive showings haven’t gone unnoticed though, with Bayern Munich reportedly previously being keen on reaching an agreement to land Son’s signature in the future.

Spurs reportedly offered Son a new contract worth more than £200,000 per-week, and he was close to agreeing a new five-year deal before Christmas 2020, but an agreement was never reached.

The latest: Decision made on Son’s short-term future

Despite talks over a new deal seemingly stalling, a Spurs source has reportedly told Football Insider that Son will stay put.

They have claimed that he has already told newly-appointed Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo that he is looking forward to working under his management next term.

Son is contracted with Spurs until 2023, but it remains to be seen as to whether his long-term future remains with the London-based club moving forwards.

But for the time being, this will come as a huge relief to the Lilywhites hierarchy and fans.

The verdict: Huge boost for Spurs

This is a huge boost for Tottenham Hotspur, and the club’s supporters will be delighted if this recent update from Football Insider is true.

Son has become even more crucial recently, having netted Jose Mourinho called him ‘incredible’ and an ‘animal’.

With Harry Kane’s future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium looking bleak, it will be vital for Nuno to build his new squad around a player of Son’s quality heading into the 2021/22 campaign.

Make no mistake about it, the South Korea star’s desire to stay is a huge boost for everyone at the club in what could have been an incredibly difficult rebuild if he and Kane were both to leave.
